Surprises, at the Turns of the Corners of Our Lives, on the Movie: Retired, But Still Active

What the movie had, shown us, that we may need, after our retirements, what this person gained, after watching this movie, translated…

There are the four stages of life that everybody goes through in life, “birth, aging, illness, death”, no matter what profession you’re in as you’d worked hard most of your lives, and finally, you’re, retired, and readied to live out the rest of your life, what stresses us the most, is are we able to, have it easy after we retired?  Like that pulled-too-tight rubberband being, suddenly released, how do we, adjust our own minds, to face this, brand new stage of life that’s, come before us now?  The movie, “Life in Overtime”, is a discussion of such, a lot of people are used to define themselves based off of the successes they had in work, and, as they’d finally had time on their own, they’d not known what they’re to do with all the time they’re granted, couldn’t be alone with themselves, I’m sure, a lot of you can connect to the experience I speak of.

At the start of the movie, it’d opened on how the high-up manager, Fomu Tashiro’s last day of work, as it came time for him to get off, he’d left the office, at the congratulation cheers of his coworkers’, this wasn’t just letting go of the responsibilities at work, it’d also symbolized, how he was about to, pass the “status” and the “powers” to someone else.  Ever since, all the glories, all the achievements he accomplished at work, became nothing but conversation topics after the meals.

Some say, that marriage is the burial grounds for love, for the work-a-holics, retirement became, synonymous with identity crises.

As Fomu watched the rest of the family members carried on about their daily businesses, going off to work in the mornings, and he’d no longer needed to be troubled by such, it seemed that he could, have it easy, relaxing, but, not having anything to do day after day after day, it’d, slowly, left him with this huge hole, and anxieties in his life.  In order to adjust himself, and not affected his loved one’s life, he’d started getting a larger social circle—he’d gone to the bookstores, to the parks, and even, to the gym, and, all of these places were filled, with people like him, those who wanted to kill the time, who are also, retired, but this sort of like doesn’t please him, he’d wanted to return back to work, to find a second spring for himself, but, it’d, not worked out like he’d hoped that it would.

here’s a “poster” of the movie the writer is talking about, from online…

At this time, Fomu sparked up some romance with the lady working at the culture centre, and the owner of a business whom he’d met in the gym was interested in having him along, and all of these caught him, off guard………

In the movie, the scenes had made the audience laughed, it’d filled up with the twists and turns, and maybe, our lives won’t be so coincidental as the movie characters’, but we all hoped we can do something after we’re, retired, to have some sort of an influence on the world, that is, what connects this film to the general public I think.  After all, not everybody feels comfortable, staying at home, and spent the next twenty years or more of their retirement that way.

We may no longer need to worry about how to make more money, but instead, how to make our lives fulfilled, some chose to travel, some, playing, babysitting their grandchildren, while others may contemplate on going into work in an alternative area, but most don’t set the goals of making more money as their top priorities, but hoping to enrich their lives, through the activities they’re, engaged in, to relieve oneself of the anxieties of not having enough to do, even, to live out one’s own dreams.

So, what other surprising things happened in the movie, and, what happened at the end of this man’s journey as he’d retired, I’m not going to tell you, you would have to go to watch the film to find out.  But, what’s interesting in the movie was, other than the issue of life after retirement, there are also, things to consider, for instance, to find a brand new way to get along with one’s families; and, as you’d left your hometowns, what can you give back to your hometowns, to make that brand new connection with the towns you grew up in.  “Retired, but Still at Work” showed us, that on the path of life, we continue to grow, that retirement allows us to sort through the roads we’d taken to where we are, and in this final passage, we can, find more meaningful ways, to cope with the arrangements of life and fate for us.

And so, this, is what this person got from the movie, because s/he is close to retirement age or already retired, and s/he’d found that the situation in the movie was something s/he can connect with, and, it’s something we all need to consider, because one day (maybe not today, tomorrow, next year, or ten years from now, but EVENTUALLY!!!), we will, ALL retire, and if prior to retirement, we only had work to keep us going, what do we have left, after the work is done with us?  This is why it’s, especially important, to develop areas of your interests now, for the sake of saving up for your own retirements.
