Life, the Obstacle Course

Stay with Me While I Grow Up…

Back then, you used to have ALL the answers, but as your child and you aged, you’d realized, that you needed him to help you hone up on your knowledge base, translated…

As my kids were still younger, I was their heaven, their earth, whatever they’d needed, find mom, and all would be okay; problems, ask mom, you’ll get the answers you seek.  In the children’s eyes, the mother was, all-knowing, I’d told my kids, “because I’m a smart mommy!”

After they’d started school, the smart mom slowly, became dumber, there are, more and more questions I couldn’t answer, and I’d, started, giving them the round-and-about answers that are usually, wrong.  As my son heard my round-and-about, beating-around-the-bushes replies, he’d asked, “aren’t you supposed to be a smart mom?”, suddenly, it’s, as if, someone had, lifted that mask off, and I can, no longer hide, just how not smart enough I was anymore.

At first, I’d, tried to maintain my authority status, to hide my own ignorance, but, the times, the technologies, continued evolving, and now, even if I want to fake it that I know it, I can no longer, and the kids are exactly the opposite of me, they’re, getting more and more able-bodied in the world now.

One day, I’d told my son, “This world belonged to the younger generations.  From before, mom was the window for you to get to know the world; from here on out, you will need to be the bridge between me and the rest of the world, I don’t want to get eliminated, so, please share with me, what you know.”

From that day on, whenever there are things I couldn’t understand, I’d, gone to my son for the answers.  In the past, I’d, accompanied him with compassion growing up, and now, he’d, used his patience, as I aged.

And so, this, is how the teacher became, the pupil, because this is the new era of technologies, and you are, no longer that into it, and you feel like you don’t know anything at all, that is why you need your son, to introduce you to the newer things that children are into now.
