Lin was the primary caretaker of his younger sister who was diagnosed with schizophrenia for over twenty years, he’d been under a great deal of stress long-term, and started having symptoms of schizophrenia without knowing it too, as his younger sister was diagnosed of breast cancer in the terminal stage, and refused to be hospitalized, he’d lost it, and started having the auditory hallucinations of “god wanted me to hack and kill my sister”, he’d chopped her head off. The Kaohsiung believed that his case deserved leniency, charged him with murder and sentenced him to two years ten months, and this can be appealed.
The Kaohsiung D.A.’s Office investigated, that after the murder, Lin (age 53) said he had no blood relations with the deceased, and that he wasn’t diagnosed with any mental illness, but after the psych evaluations and reviewing over his medical records, it’d been confirmed, that he too, had the symptoms of schizophrenia for many years, with delusions and auditory hallucination too, he and his family failed to notice it. The courts believed, that as Lin murdered his younger sister, he’d heard the voice telling him that “God wanted him to hack her sister on the neck”, believed he was, setting his younger sister free, which clearly showed, that he was in diminished capacity to think things through, and to control his own behaviors too.
The Collectivist Court discussed and believed, that Lin had been troubled by schizophrenia long term, but because he and his family failed to notice the symptoms, he didn’t get treated, and he’d been taking care of his schizophrenic sister long-term, which caused him to be under great stress; after he’d murdered his younger sister, he’d behaved well, and, based off of the reducing of the sentence that he’d, qualified for, he received two years, ten months’ sentence.
Twenty-five years ago, after Lin’s mother passed, he and his wife took on the caretaking needs of his younger mentally ill sister, he’d taken care of her living, and medical treatment processes on his own, his wife worked and provided for the family economically. Last May, because his sister felt pains in her breasts, went to the clinic on her own, and was diagnosed as being in the terminal stage of breast cancer, the doctor immediately notified her family, and transferred her into a major hospital for treatment.
As Lin received the notice from the clinic, he’d, immediately taken his younger sister out of the clinic, but his younger sister refused to transfer, the two started in argument downstairs at his residence. Lin lost emotional control, and, didn’t know that he was also, overcome with symptoms of schizophrenia, and was affected by the “order of God” auditory hallucination, believed that he could, put his younger sister out of her misery, went home, grabbed a butcher’s knife, and chopped his younger sister’s head off in the streets; after he’d murdered his younger sister, he’d locked himself inside his room, as the officers came, he’d, handed them the knife he used to decapitate his younger sister, turned himself in.
And so, this man was so focused on taking care of his younger sister, he’d, not paid attention to himself, not realizing that he was, also, overcome with the symptoms of schizophrenia, that was why this murder occurred, and, this is also, very tragic, because this man took care of his younger sister, and, failed to take care of himself, and had he gotten treated, then, maybe, just maybe, this might not have, happened, but it had, because he failed to notice the symptoms he was, experiencing, as a schizophrenic symptom.
