A homeless man, Yu, found an opened bottle of drink, he mistook it as something that someone didn’t finishing drinking, and picked it up, for a sip, without realizing, that the content of the bottle was descaler, ten second later, he’d started brawling on the ground, he was rushed to the hospital, but died.
The police investigated, that Yu (age 47) at eight in the morning on July 25th, as he was picking up the recycling materials, he walked passed Jien-De Road in Kaohsiung, saw a half-full bottle of drink inside the basket of a scooter, thought that someone had forgotten the drink, without knowing, that the content was descaler, after about ten seconds later, he’d started brawling on the ground, he was rushed to the hospital, but still died.
The police investigated, that Yu (age 47) at around eight in the morn on the 25th of last month, as he was picking up recycled materials, he saw a half-full bottle of drink inside the basket of a scooter, thought it was left over from someone, he’d, picked it up, placed it inside his push cart. Not long thereafter, he’d opened it up, took a drink, and, realized that it wasn’t, edible, he’d started drinking the bottles of fresh water he had, but he’d fallen down and started brawling on the ground, and died as the ambulance rushed him to the hospital.
The paramedics found erosions in Yu’s mouth, suspected that he’d drunk a strong acid or a strong basic, the police cased the scene, found the brown remains on the ground to have a strong acid scent, they’d looked at the surveillance footage, and found the owner of the scooter, Hsu to inquire, Hsu told the police, that the contents of the bottle was descaler, because of his need for work, that was why he’d, put some inside the drink bottles, he’d not expected that anybody would take a drink from the plastic bottle.
The police examined Yu’s body, and found erosions of his stomach and intestines, suspected that he’d died of heart and lung failure caused by metabolic acidosis. The police told, that the descaler has a bad scent, that as soon as they’d opened up the bottle cap, the smell came up, they’d suspected that Yu had been drinking, which dulled his olfactory sense that was how he’d, accidentally, consumed the poison. Because he didn’t have any family, his final affairs were, left to the charities to handle.
This, would be, an unfortunate, accidental death, because this homeless man was thirsty, and, he saw a bottle of drink, and, picked it up, without realizing, that it’d, contained chemicals, and, his drinking had, dulled his olfactory sense, and, had he not been drinking, then, he may not have, consumed the descaler, and he may still be alive now…
