The Fire that Killed Four Residents in a Nursing home, the Personnel of the Home Received Probation After They’d Agreed on the Eleven Million Dollars N.T. Settlement with the Families

The privately owned nursing home in Longtan, Taoyuan set up an illegal second floor, and took in sixteen extra residents than allowed by the government, last March during a power outage, because Le, the nurse used a candle, it’d caused a fire, causing four deaths thirteen injuries; the courts considered that the Chungs, a father and son pair who were in charge of the home had already paid the victims who were injured, along with the families of those elderly who’d died, a total of eleven million dollars N.T. to settle things, they were both sentenced a year eight months, Le, the nurse was sentenced to a year ten months, all three would be on probation for four years.

The police investigated, the nursing home, based off of the requirements of the law can only have one story, but two years ago in May, Chung had expanded the facility on his own to the second floors, and dodged the fire department’s safety exams, and opened up the second floor for sixteen more residents, and they’d not set up the emergency lights, or the smoke detectors in the rooms upstairs.

Last March in the early hours, the Taipower caused an outage, the Vietnamese nurse’s aide, in order to have some light in the second floor, she’d, lit a candle, which caused a fire, and causing four male residents, Wei, Xi, Yeh, and Chiu to die.

Afterwards, Chung admitted, “I was wrong”, claimed that he will do everything he could, to take up the responsibilities; the courts weighed, that the father-son pair had already reached settlement agreements with the injured and the families of the deceased, with the total sum of over eleven million dollars N.T., which clearly showed, that Chung was truly in remorse about what happened, that he was, willing, to pay for his neglect, to make up as best as he could.

And, although the nurse, Le couldn’t pay for the sums because of her own economics, but based off of the agreed settlement, she had, used compassions to look after the residents, and besides, Chung already had the forgiveness of the families and the elderly who were injured, the families didn’t want to pursue this any further.

The courts believed, that Chung’s continual caring, communication with the families, although he’d not gotten the forgiveness of everybody, but, this was due to how the families lost their loved ones, and so, he received probation.

And so, clearly, this was, due to the neglect of the nurse, and, because she didn’t intend for the fire to happen, that it happened due to her carelessness, that is why, she’s only charged with involuntary manslaughter, instead of MURDER!
