Something that can be done, so the elderly in the population aren’t left alone, taking care of each other, observations from the Front Page Sections, translated…
Yilan is considered as a place to move to for those from the outside, a heaven, plus, the local old homes, it’d become, an aging county, and, you can see the hunched over, elderly, trekking along the streets slowly everywhere.
The elderly couple from across my workshop, one day, the man had, fallen limp in his vegetable gardens, his wife pulled him back up, took him inside their home, and not long thereafter, I saw him wheeled out on a wheelchair, by a foreign helper; not long after that, the elderly woman too, was in a wheelchair, wheeled out, by another foreign nurse’s aide, thankfully, their son is a physician, and they wouldn’t have any troubles, finding the hired help needed.

An elderly who’d bought paintings from me earlier, had been in a wheelchair for a long time, he’d switched many foreign nurse’s aides already, his wife frowned more than she’d smiled, because her husband was stubborn, and after he’d fallen ill, he’d, become even more stubborn, and, the children are all away, and only returned every once in a while, and so, she can, only keep everything bottled up!
I’d bumped into an elderly couple who’d shared a wheelchair, both their legs aren’t well, not fitted for walking long distance, and so, they can only take turns, pushing each other around, this seemingly heartwarming frame, made me feel, so sad.
Before the Dragon Boat Festival, as my wife was making her way home from her morning walks, she saw an elderly woman fallen by the side of the roads, with abrasions on her face, and her arms, she’d asked her for her daughter-in-law’s number, called, but nobody answered, and asked her where she lived, and, my wife went in person, to tell her family that she’d, fallen down, and, there were, the elderly neighbors who’d come to assist her, and, her husband came too, in an electric wheelchair, and finally, the daughter-in-law came lately, to take her to the hospital to get treated. Although, the neighbors are better because they’re, closer, but, we’d, needed some young blood in the neighborhoods to help us out!
A short while ago, I had a conversation, with a younger man who has the expertise in taking care of elderly, he’d studied in Yilan for years, saw that there are, a lot of elderly in the population, and so, he’d, decided to stay after graduation to help with the related work, and because Yilan is the well-known heaven for elderly, this young man, had found his place.

I’d also, accompanied the elderly in the communities for the classes, especially the spots in the community, set up for the elderly to socialize, it’s, a great direction that elderly caretaking can go, and, the man in charge of setting up this program, returned home to care for his elderly parents, and after he’d returned, he’d, decided, to set up those distant villages, so the elderly can have a place to shine with their skills. Adding the energies of the younger generations, especially, the younger generations related to the elderly who lived there, to provide the care, making Yilan, a true heaven for the elderly now!
This is, precisely WHY there’s, this need for the younger generations in the communities, to help provide for the cares of the elderly population, because, now, the elderly are taking care of the elderly, or that the elderly is, taken care of by the foreign workers, and, without their families there, it’s, just, not the same…
