As Lin’s father rushed to the hospital to see his daughter-in-law one last time, he kept crying loudly.
The four children who took the police vehicles away were so thrilled, as they saw their parents again, they’d become, dead bodies, the four children started wailing loudly by the bed; their aunt consoled them, “Your parents were trying to protect you guys, okay? You should behave yourselves, don’t worry, aunt will take good care of you.” the originally happy outing for the family, had become, tragic.
The police investigated, the forty-two year-old Lin took along his 34-year-old wife, Chang and their four children to the creeks to swim, at around two in the afternoon, the third child, nine year-old daughter slipped and fell into the pool, the thirteen-year-old eldest son saw, and rushed over and swam to save his sister, after he’d gotten his sister to shore, he felt he was drowning, and called out for help.
Lin saw his son drowning, rushed in, but, he’d started cramping in the legs; as his wife saw, she’d grabbed a piece of wood, but couldn’t reach him, and so, she’d, gone in too, and, seemingly started cramping, and entered into the deeper parts of the waters, and, they both started panicking, and drowned.
As the couple were drowning, the eldest son already found his way to shore, as the four children saw their parents drowning, they’d, hollered out for help, “Help, someone’s drowning…” the residents who were about fifty meters away, heard, and rushed to save them, one of them tied a pipe to another, to go in, and, in about five minutes, they were, managed, to pull the couple back out, but, they’d already, stopped breathing, the locals immediately called the fire department.
And because it was eleven kilometers from the closest police station, about twenty kilometers from the nearest fire station, after the call center of Hsinbei City received the call, they’d started instructing the local residents to perform CPR; the paramedics finally arrived forty minutes after the call was received, the Lins had anoxia, and, the hospital performed the resuscitation measures until five in the afternoon, then, declared them both dead, the families who were anxiously waiting by couldn’t believe they’d lost them, and were in deep distress.
The local residents pointed out, that there was a trail right by the creeks that can get to Pingling, that it is, among the best trails in Taiwan, very cool in the summers, like walking in a forest trail; but, the creek was very uneven in depth, that almost nobody went there to swim.
The social workers of Hsinbei City’s Social Services Department went to the hospitals, and made sure that the children are cared for by the families, and they will keep on following up.
And, this is still, a good example of W-H-Y, if you want to go for a swim, go to a place where there are, lifeguards, like a pool, don’t swim in places like this one, because, something like this can easily happen to you, and, this time, the parents were, lost, leaving behind, their young children…
