Best Friends for Life

We are, BEST friends for L-I-F-E here, translated…

After reading the article, “Brothers are the Best Friends in Life” by Wesley, as an only child, I’d, started, envying how connected the brothers were in the article, it’d, reminded me of how in my schooling years, I’d, met a best friend who’s a member of the opposite sex, this friendship, had made me feel so blessed, I’d, never felt lonely, and, we’d, stayed best of friends for nearly half a century. With this sort of a brotherly love, even if I’m without a brother, I’d not, have any regrets in this life.

“Making connections all around”, although I’d never lacked any friends, but, having someone whom I can share things with, it’s, quite rare, and, being from different families of origins, we don’t necessarily, show our undoubted, support for one another completely. And, there was, only one person, who’d, passed through the trials of times with me—CF.

Funny thing was, even as we’d gone to the same elementary school, our tracks never crossed, until we’d become, students of neighboring classes in middle school, sharing the same instructors, we were both, members of the student council that was when, we’d, started, connecting. After school, we’d always, sat right next to one another on the stone chair of the campus, wrote in our diaries, and carried on in casual conversations, and, this, started this friendship that’s, passed through over forty years.

From young teenagers who didn’t know anything, into those years of romances in our twenties, after we’d, both survived through the eras of the difficult college entrance exams, CF never once, gloated on his academic excellence. We’d ridden the bicycles together, strolled the night markets, swam together, played balls, and, talked about the girls we were into. Everybody around us knew we were, the best of friends, even after the college entrance exams, he entered into a university in Hsinchu, I, a university in Taichung, we’d, still written and called each other often. Every time the weekends came, we’d, gone to see one another, to spend time together, even our spouses, they were, both high school best friends too.

And now, as we passed our sixtieth, with our separate, families, although, we’d not, made the blood oaths, but, we viewed one another, as each other’s brother. No matter where, only a call was needed, then, we’d, kept our promises, and, met up. It’s, hard enough, to have a best friend in this life, I’m grateful, that all the way, CF was right beside me, I hope, that our connections as brothers with different last names can be the most cherished relationship in our separate lives.

a friendship, that trascends through the years, not my photograph…

The depth of these two men’s connection is amazing, the two of them met back in middle school, became the best of friends, and, kept up with their connections, throughout the years, and this is very difficult, because as they both grow older, they had different life experiences, and, this might sometimes, drive two best friends apart, but, this wasn’t the case here, no, they were, close as ever now.
