The Steel-Roof Shacks Which are Rented Out to Elderly in the Lower End of the Socioeconomic Statuses Caught Fire, Causing Three Deaths

The environment is unsafe, especially for the elderly, with their delayed response time, and everything else adding up! From the Front Page Sections, translated…

A steel-roof building on Heping East Road Section Three in the city of Taipei, at around eight in the morn yesterday, had an explosion, smoke and fire came out of it, causing three deaths; the neighbors told, that a few days ago, they’d heard people arguing, and, the fire department is currently investigating if the fire was an arson, or an accident.

The three deaths were the retired school instructor, Lo (age 73), the woman, Chen (age 64), and their grandson, Liu (age 13); Liu was originally in the sixth grade in an elementary school in Tucheng, Liu’s father said, that his grandfather took care of him, and two days ago, because his son was ill, she was taken by his grandmother, Chen to look after, they took up residence at a friend, Huang’s second floor residence, and had died because of a fire.

The scene of the fire is a three-story steel-roof shack, the first and second floors were separated by the landlord, Wang into suites; and the third floor was rented by someone who owns a temple, and because there were flammables stored in the temple, as the fire occurred early yesterday morn, the temperature reached so high that the bus stop melted from across the streets, and the covers of the scooters parked nearby all melted away. At first, the fire department believed that the point of ignition was on either the first or the second floor.

The female owner of the temple, Jiang pointed out, that at seven in the morn yesterday, she’d heard explosion with her husband, and ran out of the temple immediately, and following that, they saw fire burning out of control; as the fire department sent out all the personnel to help put out the flames, the fires were put out by nine in the morn, but by then, four of the residents were missing.

The renter, Huang left early yesterday morning for work, after he learned there was a fire, he’d immediately rushed home, and wanted to rush into the burning building to save others, but the firefighters stopped him from it.

At noon, the firefighters found the body to Lo, and not long thereafter, the elderly, Lo returned on his own, stated that he went out to the physician’s office for doctor’s appointment early in the morn; the police and firefighters searched for the grandmother, grandson Chen and Liu, originally, their families had hoped, that they’d gone out, and escaped the fire, that they’d lost communications with them, until around six in the evening yesterday, their bodies were, discovered at the scene, and this fire took three lives.

And so, this accidental fire took THREE lives, and, there were those who’d, escaped because they were away, and, this just showed, how even IF the housing complexes were rented to those in the lower end of the socioeconomic statuses, there’s still, need for the awareness of an emergency exit, an escape plan, in case something like this were to happen!
