Here, the judge ruled in favor of the woman who’d gone back on the promises of marrying the man, and you can see why, can’t you??? From the Front Page Sections, translated…
A man, Huang was engaged to the woman, Chu, whom he’d dated for nine years on end, and they’d hosted a banquet for the occasions, but Chu refused to register for the marriage; Huang believed that Chu had no intentions of fulfilling the contract of marriage, called the wedding off, and sued for nearly a million dollars from her, Chu stated the evidence of Huang’s being drunk, and his gambling habits, and how he’d, cussed her out, that it was his own fault, that they didn’t get married. The judge believed that Chu was reasonable in calling off the marriage, and found it that she didn’t have to pay.
The verdict pointed out, that three years ago, Huang and Chu were engaged, and had hosted a banquet for the occasion, afterwards, Huang had multiple times urged Chu to register for their marriage at the land offices, Chu had turned him down. Huang was angry, and called the marriage off, and sued her for the civil damages, demanded that she gave him back the gold jewelries that he’d given her, the wedding pastries, the dress, along with the cost of the banquet, totaling up to over $470,000N.T.s, and sued her for another half a million dollars for emotional distress.
Chu told the judge, that Huang had been gambling a very long time, is a drunk, chewed betel nuts, she’d worked so hard, to talk some senses into him, but he wouldn’t listen, that he’d even, cussed her out in front of her mother too; Chu said, she’d worked in the marketplaces into the late evenings, and Huang didn’t show her any empathies, instead, he’d, verbally abused her, and as her mother hired a male worker to help carry the load, he’d, gotten jealous, and gotten angry over how she’d not returned to their residences, and how she’d eaten the meals with a male employee, and that it wasn’t her fault that the marriage didn’t go through.
The Tainan District Court in the first trial found that Chu didn’t need to pay, Huang had appealed, and the Collectivist Court of Tainan believed, that the two of them had their wedding banquet over two years ago, and had endless arguments, and Huang didn’t deny having cussed Chu out, and Chu had sued Huang for libel and slander, and although the charges were dropped, but their love was no longer there anymore.
The judge believed, that although the contract of marriage was legally binding, but it wouldn’t have an effect based off of status, and one can’t force the other to fulfill the obligations; Huang didn’t change his bad habits, couldn’t gain Chu’s trust, and register for the marriage, that he as at fault, and that he couldn’t ask Chu to pay back what he’d already given to her.
And so, because this man had a ton of bad habits that only started showing up after they were engaged, therefore, the woman HAS the right, to NOT fulfill her end of the contract, and, the judge reviewed over the facts of how this man still kept gambling, how he’d still kept up with his bad habits, and so, the woman didn’t have to pay, because she HAS the right, to FIND a better man for herself!
