Because they’d already, gotten the grades of their college entrance exams, and knew which schools they got accept to, and selected the ones they will be entering in the fall already, so they, BLOW off that final semester of their high school year! From the Front Page Sections, translated…
I work in the unit of multiple accommodations for college entrance, and had gotten into contact with a lot of last year high school students. After they took their college entrance exams, they seem to believe, that the work in high school is, done, and the sixth and final semester of their high school should be time to relax for them, and so, a lot of students started taking their leaves of absence; it’s just, that there are, a lot of signatures I’d needed from the students, and I kept announcing it on the P.A., but, no response, and so, I can only, head over to the classes to find the students, then, I’d come to find, that over half of the students already started, on their summer vacation early, they’d not shown up for school anymore.

The students done their own calculations perfectly, that only a few days off, couldn’t affect their graduation; plus, we’d gone by the credit and semester programs now, if they’d had enough credits, they wouldn’t even show up for the makeup exams. Some of the students who’d shown up, were only, trying to fulfill the hours of requirement that lets them graduate.
And, as I couldn’t find the students, I can only, call their homes, and, they were all, sleeping in, and even as they do show up, they’d, shown up too late, with their flipflops, and breakfast in their hands, strolled in to school, so leisurely, with a total disregard of the school rules, and, there were, only the sparsely populated number of students, and even for those who will be taking the exams, they’d rather file for days off, and head to the cram school sessions instead.
The new college entrance reform had, caused the final semester of the last year of high school to become, pointless, there weren’t enough students who showed up in class, but, there were still the lessons that needed to be taught, and learned at the last semester of the high school years, turning this final year of high school into, two separate worlds. Those who already got accepted started, wandering around the school, those who hadn’t gotten accepted into a school, those who needed to study, didn’t have the mind to settle down. And, the problem can be solve simply, by having enough teachers, school personnel to lead the classes. At most, we can only, get these last year high school students to get involved in volunteer services, or, allow them, to take their leaves of absence.

And so, this is why this final year of high school, is basically, BLOW-OFF time for these students, they’d already passed the exams, gotten their college applications accepted to certain universities and what-not, their minds are already, on VACATION, and so, naturally, most of these students just, blow off their final semesters, and this is not good, because, what this translates to is that it’s okay, for you, to BLOW things off, if you already got where you’re going in life, and that, is the WRONG kind of values that these students are learning here!!!
