A five-year-old young girl in Changwha started convulsing and throwing up, early in the morning hours yesterday, she was rushed to the emergency room by her aunt and uncle, the doctors who’d examined her thought she had been abused and sexually assaulted, reported it to the police. The Changwha District Attorney’s Office arrested the young child’s aunt and uncle, and, after they’d interrogated the two adults through the night, the uncle was charged with attempted murder, and breaking laws in protective children’s act, the aunt was asked to go home.
The social services department locally told, that the family isn’t registered as high-risk, and nobody had called to report that it is. The neighbors told, that the young child was very cute, very courteous, that she’d played everyday in the courtyard of the old mansion, and would greet the elders, and everybody loved her very much, her uncle is kind toward others most of the times, but he’d consumed alcohol every now and then, they’d never heard of the child cry, from being physically abused.
At around one in the morning yesterday, the child was carried in by the aunt and uncle to the E.R. of a local hospital, because the child fell into a coma, she was transferred to the Catholic Hospital of Changwha; the surgeons performed emergency operation on her, and confirmed that the child had been abused long-term, at nine the following morning, the hospital notified the social services as well as the police.
The assistant director of the hospital, Chou said, that the young child had bruises, hematomas on her chest, her back, and her arms and legs too, there were, multiple old and new injuries on her, the CT scan showed that she had acute subdural hematoma and subarachnoid hemorrhage, that they suspected she was attacked by blunt object, and, the hematoma had affected her medulla, causing her to fall into a comatose; the surgeons performed emergency surgeries, and now, she is in a level-three comatose, in very critical condition. And, the hospital also found the child to have laceration on her anus, suspected that something had gone in.
Based off of investigations, as the child was born, her mother was only seventeen, her unwed birthmother took care of her for three years, and married another in May of last year, and, handed the child over to her older sister and her husband who didn’t have children to look after. The aunt and uncle didn’t have children after they were wed, and lived in a corner room of an old-style mansion, the aunt was unemployed, the uncle worked odds and ends, and collected recycling materials, the household economics wasn’t that well.
The district attorney, Tsai received the call yesterday afternoon, and ordered for the child’s aunt and uncle’s arrest, and he’d told the two, they’d broken the laws of child protection, and had the police taken the couple to the home, to “show what happened”, afterwards, they were taken to the local substation to question.
And so, this is, one more sad case of, child abuse, and, the mother of this young child is also, very irresponsible, she’d, abandoned her young, because she couldn’t, care for her, in the hands of unfitting relatives, and they ended up, nearly, murdering this five-year-old.
