International Family Day, Let’s Raise the Values of Families Together

Written by a Professor of the counseling major of a university, off the Front Page Sections, translated…

The UN had set May 15th as International Family Day, hoping that through celebrating the day, it can make people value their families more worldwide. In half a century, the definition and meaning of “families” is changing fast. In the past, the matter of families were an issue of privacy, but back in 2003, when Taiwan passed the “Family Education Law”, the government announced that it’s focused on the educations of the families, and stated that families played a vital role in the various stages of one’s life, that we’d needed to, take time to learn.

In recent years, Taiwan faced huge changes in families and marriages, including the hiking up of divorce rates, the low birthrates, and the increasing number of families in poverty, along with the aging population too. Actually, “families” are the most fundamental basis of a nation, but now, a lot of the younger generations are focused on following the trends of “not marrying, no children, no raising their young”, causing this reduction in birthrate, along with the mixed values of families, it’d caused the huge hidden worries for how this country will develop in the future.

I’d often joked on how those born in the fifties or sixties, are the “last generation that will treat their parents right and kind, along with the first generation being abandoned by their own young”. In how fast the environment is changing, and how the overall economy is, on this consistent decline, the divorce rates, and the rates of single-parents families on the rise. At the same time, I couldn’t, ask too much from the younger generations, as finding a good job is too hard, and yet, the wages are around $22,000 per month; plus, there are the nerds, the geeks, the leeches too, and so, I can only sigh on, how the good old days are, gone. It’s no wonder, that this next generation lacked that interest in marrying and having offspring!

As the KMT took office, they’d set 2013 as “Family Education Year”, and set up plans for it, it’s just, that it didn’t, go through, with less interests from the media, and so, there wasn’t, that much effect of the programs.

The families are keys, to keeping a country growing, and instilling that respect for those who are different. I want to shout out to the government, the religious, the foundations here, as well as the members of the public, to care more about issues relating to the family, so we can, embrace with passion, marriages, families, to increase the values of the families as a whole.

Yeah, uh, good luck on that! This is happening, because, this IS an unsafe world, to bring a child into, take a look around, and tell me you don’t see the dangers everywhere, a child can have over a ZILLION ways of being murdered, emotionally once s/he is outside the “mothership”, and with this unsafe environment, who the FUCK (pardon the “French”…) would be, DUMB enough, to have children? I surely as hell wouldn’t!
