Wanting the students to perform better overall, he’d started helping the students, tackling their reading abilities, the wills of a teacher who works in the distant regions, from the Newspapers, translated…
A lot of the students, after the test was over, still didn’t finish half of the test questions, the Linyuan Elementary School’s Chinese instructor, Yen-Yo Lin believed, that the students lacking understanding of the materials was due to their lower level of understanding of the materials they’d read. As he’d begun working as the very first “Interviews of Teachers in Classrooms”, he’d gone to the various distant region schools, used the morning study sessions, to teach the students to read the international news, to help them get more stimulated by the multiple cultures in the world, to help the students build up a sense of international views.
Lin had poured himself into language instructions for over ten years, he’d once acted as the judge for the “Slabs Plans”, the reading program set up by the Department of Education, received the awards for super teacher in Kaohsiung, the outstanding youth awards, in 2013, he’d gotten involved with the Chinese afterschool help sessions in the city of Kaohsiung, and two years ago, he was, transferred to the Tai-An Elementary School in the city of Taichung.
Lin said, that many believed that reading only affects the language courses, in fact, the children who can read, not only were able to digest the materials quicker, as they take the exams, they can understand the meaning of the test questions well too. In the correct guidance, through upping the abilities to read, the way of thought, and expressions, there’s, this clear increase in the grades in the non-language subjects such as mathematics too.
Lin made the example, that there was a student who was excellent in the language arts, but suffered in math. He’d found out, that although this student had been studious, but he’d started, swallowing the materials whole to learn, he’d lost his ability to judge for himself. For instances, the math problem, “This is the third day of the week, John went to the marketplace to shop for his groceries”, and the student would count the first three mentioned, the third day of the week into the calculation of the answers.
Lin was stationed in the distant region schools, and, worked alongside the teachers locally, to discuss methods in teaching. In the two years, the learning programs he’d pushed forth in the Tai-An Elementary School included the flexible or language arts learning courses for the higher grades, taking along the students to read the international news headlines.
And so, this man realized the importance of comprehending language, and he’d, pour his heart and soul into devising a method, to effectively teach the students about how to comprehend the written language better, and his dedication to what he does is incredible!
