Life, the Obstacle Course

Fried Shrimp Tempura

This is really sad, if you needed some food item, to remind you of your estranged mother, translated…

When I’d wanted the yummy fried shrimp tempuras, I’d needed to go into a restaurant to get it. The key of the food item being so tasty lies in the batter and the temperature of the frying oil, something that us, ordinary home cooks can manage.

and this, is what reminded her of her mother…photo from online…

When I was younger, I was somewhat estranged from my mother, my single mother worked away, I’d rarely seen her, not had any conversations either. In my impressions, she’d already dressed herself up to the nines, working out, busying away. When mom was young, she was a woman with a ton of suitors, and, beautiful women don’t set foot into the kitchen, and so, I rarely had any of my mother’s homecooked meals when I was growing up, I’d not even gotten the opportunities to dine with her that much at all.

Once, mom was free, I thought we can finally be together, but instead, she’d taken me to a very far off place to see an orthodontist. You know how kids are most fearful toward the dentists. After I saw the dentist, my mother who’d ignored me normally took me to a Japanese restaurant as a reward, the fried shrimp tempura. With that huge shrimp, wrapped in batter, crisp on the outside, tender, juicy on the in, it’d made me forget how horrid my experience in the orthodontist’s office was. After I grew up, every time I’d ordered up the fried shrimp tempuras, I’d recalled how young and pretty my mom was back then.

like this, maybe???  Photo found online…

And so, this, is how this individual remembers her mother, because she’d been left in her relatives’ house, while her mother worked away, and, that is why there’s the estrangement, and yet, she’d recalled that time when her mother took her to the orthodontist’s office, and the reward she’d received afterwards, see what stays in your children’s lives???
