My Son’s Misunderstanding, on Parent-Child Interactions

Back when we were little, we had the tendencies to put our parents on that high-pedestal, don’t we??? Translated…

A short while ago, I’d gone with my youngest son, to see a film about a circus, and he’d, slipped, “When I was younger, I thought you were really, an animal tamer!”

I’d once worked in the training and education of workers at a wildlife amusement park from before, planned the job training sessions, and educating the workers on what they need to do. Whenever we’d gathered as family, and we’d chatted on work, my older brother-in-law joked, “Wow, You’re a lion trainer at XX Zoo Park, that’s amazing!”, and I’d replied back, jokingly, and stressed how I was only a “trainer”, not a “lion tamer”! And, this was the setting for our conversations, and, my youngest son took it to be real back then.

He’d told me, that he’d felt amazed all these years, that I was, a lion tamer, until he’d started knowing better, and realized, that his mom was full of it; and so, I’d transferred from that super cool lion tamer mom, back into the real world, turned back into an uncool, ordinary mom!

My eldest son misunderstood me too.

In my leisure time, I’d record down the things that’s happened all around me, and sorted it through, and sent the writings into the various newspapers. Other than being an interest, it also helps me make some extra allowances I can spend, and, as my articles get published on the papers, I’d felt, very proud.

Since my sons were children, they were, forced readers of my articles, and I’d read aloud the articles I’d written that was published, and pointed to those small framed boxes, and gloated to them on how that was their mom’s work, and so, my eldest mistook me as a professional writer.

Later on, as he’d filled out the family situations survey in middle school, he’d written “Writer” in my work column, and I’d, whited it out, and put “housewife”, then, everything became clear to him—he finally learned, that I was only “sitting” at “home”, climbing those boxes in the drafting papers, and I’d accidentally found my eldest son’s beautiful and romantic way of interpreting my work.

As I’d mentioned my many roles to my sons from back, my eldest was awkward, “Ahhh! I was, so foolish, and naïve too!”, and, my youngest son who’s very simpleminded rolled his eyes at me, “Holy! You’d, lied to us for all these years!”

My sons didn’t know, that their “misunderstanding” of their almighty mom was kinda wonderful to me, but for them, it’s, “so embarrassing”, but for me, it’s a sort of a positive energy that makes me grin ear to ear every time I’d think about it!

And so, this showed, how children had the tendency to put their parents on a high-pedestal, that is, until they know better, like the two sons here, they thought their mom was so amazing, and, turned out, she was only ordinary, and, the sons felt cheated, but, the mom had a laugh over it.
