The Two Workers Turned Up Missing, the Man in Charge of the Plant Rushed to the Security, Had Him Report it, Then, Went in to Save the Missing…the Workers Had Taken No Precautionary Measures, They May Have Become Unconscious, Then Drowned to Death

The owner of an electric company, Kao, and his two workers, yesterday, went to fix the waste water sink at a community in Kaohsiung yesterday, they were suspected of inhaling in concentrated hydrogen sulfide; passed out, and fell into a pool of water; the firefighters rescued three of them out, rushed them to the hospital, but, they’d all died.  Lin’s wife received the call, rushed to the E.R., cried toward her husband’s corpse, “Wake up!  Wake up!”, it’d made everybody who was there feel sad.

For now, there’s no telling if all three men were drowned to death or they’d inhaled in the toxic fumes and died, the police believed, that they may have passed out, then fell into the tanks, then drown to death, the D.A. will be looking at the autopsy results today.

The police and fire department investigated, that the 43-year-old Kao yesterday went with the 30-year-old employee, Lin, the 53-year-old worker, Kao to the second floor of the basement of a community, to fix up the broken pipes at the waste water tanks; at 4:39 p.m., Kao rushed up to the security asked him to report, that his two workers went missing in the tanks, then rushed to the tanks to attempt to save them, and he’d, lost contact too.

As the firefighters rushed over, they’d smelled something awful, they’d used the machines, to pump oxygen into the tanks, to dilute the smell, then, put on their gears, and entered into the tank to save them, and, the firefighters found one of the three floating on the surfaces, two sank to the bottom of the tanks, it took them about half an hour to pull all three men up, although they were rushed to the hospital, but all three were dead.

The firefighter told, that back then, the alarm in the basement was sounding off, and they’d found the concentrated sulfur monochloride reading at 52ppm, but the human body can only tolerate 10ppm.  The manager of the department of labor office, Pan said, that the workers may not have complied with the safety measures, they’d failed to note that the fumes were toxic, and not emptied out the tanks first, and not put on the safety gears before they went in; the employers will be forced to shut down operations, and will be fined $300,000N.T. for not complying with the safety measures.

The lieutenant of the First Squad of the Fire Department, Huang said, that closed in tanks would often have the toxic concentrated fumes, that before starting to work, the workers MUST check for it; if you find someone who’s suspected of inhaling in the fumes, never rush in, be sure to dilute the gas, then, put on your own protective gears.

And because it was a dire situation, the owner of the business decided to rush in, and that cost him his life, and, there was this lack of safety precaution too, and this could’ve been avoided, but it wasn’t.
