This is the long-term care system for demented elderly that’s effective, and yet, there’s still that BIG problem of lacking in personnel, the high turn-over rates, because this IS difficult work, from the Newspapers, translated…

The Hsinbei City’s Long-Term Care Specialty Community, Asian-East Compound Center had its grand opening yesterday, the Asian-East Hospital and twenty-one communities had combined the services of providing the care, of them, the long-term-care happy dementia community center was one of the locations, offering the community-based system of long-term care programs, to reduce the time of the waiting period of the elderly who’d needed the services, and it’d helped lighten the burdens of the family members.

“My mother would get angry all the time…”, the sixty-year-old Chen said, that his elderly eighty-five-year-old mother would often get angry, and became emotionally unstable, but six months ago, through the interactions she had at the long-term care happy community center, she’d gotten into the occupational therapy programs, doing some gardening, the memory tests, along with other related classes, from the beginning when she’d fought against going to classes, to now, she’d looked forward to the weekly courses, she has an extra outlet for her emotions, and, she’d become, happier too, through the classes, the family members and the patients get to interact more, it’d helped slow down the progressions of their dementia too, and the primary caretakers could have time to breathe as well.

The director of the hospital, Lin said, that Taiwan had marched into the elderly society, and in order to adapt to the super elderly society in the future, the work of long-term care became more and more important, but, through the services offered by Asian-East Hospital is not quite enough, currently, the hospital had invited twenty-one local communities to participate in the long-term care programs, hoping that through combining the systems, the elderly can have an “A+” life.

“We’re like the hands and feet of the long-term care units”, the director of the social worker’s unit in Asian-East Hospital, Shyong said, the hospital takes care of the setting up of the services and care needed, and it’d helped shortened the waiting period of the patients and their families to just seven days from the one to two months from before, and they would have the follow-up programs on how the elderly responded to the services provided.

Shyong stated, that lacking in personnel is the biggest problem that they’re experiencing, from the testing of the system of care that’s started back in April, they’d taken on seventy cases, but, it’s really hard to find the homecare providers and the nurses, the professional care providers takes on too many cases, if there can be more people onboard the program, then, the program will run more smoothly that’s for certain.

And so, the biggest problem is lacking the workers, because working in long-term care is very difficult, and, this is a great program, but, the lacking in the trained professionals to offer the services needed is the primary key to if this system works or fails!
