My Mom, Superwoman

Having a colorful life AFTER the retirement, but, this woman still works, dedicating her time, to a multitude of things that matter to her, translated…

My mother is a working woman, she’d worked for twenty plus years in the youth counseling facility since its beginning days. At the age of forty-something, she’d wanted to further her education, and took the graduate school entrance exam for the sociology department in a lot of the public universities, in the end, she got into her alma mater, N.T.U., in a few short years, she was able to finish her thesis while working, received her degree. At the age of fifty-something, she’d retired, and, she was asked by a Buddhist organization, to set up a halfway house which was very rare locally, for youths who’d dropped out, and even if the process of setting up the halfway house wasn’t easy at all, in her endless hardworking manners, the facility is working well now, and what was more was that the organization had helped a lot of the loss youths return back to school, or to help them adapt to living in the real world.

At the age of retirement, close to her sixtieth, we’d thought she could finally start living a life of leisure, traveling, but she’d found, that there were many cases of divorce in the family courts, and, with her training and experiences, she could start with the researching into the various cases, and help with the mediation. And so, Monday through Friday, throughout the day, she’d run to various courts to mediate; and, having that special connection with her alma mater, she’d also taken on the volunteering opportunities to lead the tours of the groups to her school. And that wasn’t enough, she’d also taken up Japanese in community college, and, most of the classmates are all younger than she was, and although she doesn’t have as sharp a memory as she had when she was younger, but she’d always managed to find the time to review the lessons she’d learned.

Working hard, she’d, played even harder, in these past two years, my mother had followed her friends, and gone to Spain, Iceland, Turkey, and Chiang Mai in Thailand, and she’d felt, at home in the foreign countries. Recently, her former coworker suggested that they go and take up the Wikipedia coding systems, to write out all of their experiences of work in the youth systems to Wikipedia, to share their valuable experiences, my mother, without another word, gone head in first.

My grandmother and my aunt who lived in other cities, when they had troubles finding her, they’d called me, “Where did your mother go? Why can’t we find her!” Actually, I have ZERO clue, where my mom is busying herself at, but she is, truly, the superwoman mom to me!

an active lifestyle after her retirement…photo from online

So, this woman had, dedicated her life, to helping others, and, even now as she’d retired, she’d still, kept that active lifestyle, to stay busy, to keep on, contributing to the world, to make her life matter, and that, is how to age gracefully, to keep on giving back to the community that we live in!
