The dedication of this woman to her class, it’s, amazing, to know, that there are still teachers who are, very dedicated in the education forum! Bringing arts to the kids who couldn’t afford to learn it, from the Newspapers, translated…

She’d started back in her first year of university, and for the seven years, the arts department of Taiwan Arts University, Yo took the train back and forth to and from Banciao to Ruifang, to teach the art courses to the children from Ruibing Elementary School, to set up the art seminars for them to attend.

Back when she was a freshman, Yo had gotten involved in the International Human Rights Group, and although she’d only stayed with the children from Ruibing Elementary for only four short days, but she’d set up that strong affinity, the very next year, she’d held an exhibition back at the Ruibing Elementary School.

Yo said, back then, she only wanted to treat the whole school as a large exhibition hall, with the theme of seeing the dreams take off, to put on the exhibitions of the sketches the art majors made of the elementary school students, and inviting the students of the elementary school to draw too, and, they’d gotten along like a big and happy family, and the program was still ongoing to this day.

Three years ago, there was a graduate out of Ruibing Elementary who’d shown an immense interest in the arts, and Yo started teaching him watercolor and sketches on Thursday afternoons, and on the evenings, she’d stayed in the school for the “Night Light Angels” program, to accompany the children in their studies and to teach them how to create art, last year, she’d received enough funding, and started the arts program in the elementary school.

Yo said, that for the years she’d gone to Ruibing, she’d found the kids to lack that depth of art appreciation, and found that the kids are very interested in photography, and so, she’d designed the courses based off of the children’s interests. Although she is going on an internship program into the southern tip after graduation this year, she had asked the other classmates of her art department to help with carrying on the art courses in Ruibing Elementary School.

And so, this, is how a college student had the idea of offering arts education to the children who showed an immense interest in the subject, because these kids are living and going to school, farther away from the cities, therefore, they may not be as culturally aware or artsy compared to the students in the cities, but, because of their show of interest in arts, this woman had set up this program that continued to provide the children of the school with the arts education they are in need of.
