The Caretakers Need a-Third of Their Lives Back

There are the available resources in the system, but, people don’t utilize them enough, translated…

“Who knows the trials of the caretakers?” the online survey forum conducted a “Needs Assessment for Caretakers”, and found, that 73 percent of the families that needed the long-term care support worried about not having enough money, and 31 percent stated that their lives were impacted because they were taking care of the ones they loved that needed the assistance in living, and, among these, 46 percent were worried of the burdens of long-term care, and not daring to get married, 56 percent had, left the workforce, 65 percent altered their plans and dreams, in order to care for their loved ones long term.

The CEO of the R.O.C. Long-Term Care Organization, Kuo said, that the survey showed, that those who’d given up their former lifestyle to look after the ones they loved may need to give up on their jobs, or their original lifestyles, but, after caring for the aging, most still can’t be relieved of their duties, and the analyzed reason showed, that it’s related to being a sense of responsibility, and, the organization hoped, that the caretakers will utilize the resources available to them, and keep working in their own jobs, to get their original life back again.

Kuo said, that a lot of the caretakers aren’t clear about the resources available, over 35 percent didn’t know that they can file for the resources, and based off of the online survey, it showed that twenty-seven person of the population believed that the 24-hour nursing homes are the best way to care for their loved ones who had lost their bodily functions, mobilities, or are demented, 26 percent believed the best choice are the daycare centers, 17 percent chose the services that comes to the home, 12 percent hired the foreign caretakers, and, less than 10 percent had quit their jobs and look after their loved ones.

Kuo said, that putting the elderly into a 24-hour nursing home unit, you need a lot of money, and, without the money, quitting your job and looking after your elder became the only option.

And so, despite all these available resources, people aren’t using them, because they don’t know that they’re available, or that they don’t qualify for the programs, and so, there are still a lot of families that are currently under duress over the long-term care programs here.
