Leaving Behind the Assets for Your Children, NOT the Inheritances

The most valuable assets are still, NOT the dollars and the cents, it’s the right work ethics, the right values you can pass down to your own young, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

On this past Memorial Day long weekend, I’d driven to the tower with my parents’ urn. On the way there, I’d thought back to how they raised me because the elders set a proper example for us, after we’d grown up and became parents, we’d, raised our own young based off of the values we’d learned from our parents. My younger brother asked me what my father did that impressed me the most when he was still living? I thought really hard, and believed it to be how he’d, kept the household tight and well.

During that era when the Taiwanese economy was just taking off, everybody wasn’t rich. When I was younger, my mother was ill a lot, and other than being the pillar of the household economy, he’d also needed to shoulder the burdens of caring for his wife and us. Being the eldest daughter, in my elementary years, I was trained, to help out with the household chores, buying the groceries, cooking, and budgeting the household expenses, my father thought, that children CAN’T make the money, therefore, we must, learn to save every last dollar we possibly can.

“Dad is not stingy, or feel bad about all those wasted money, I’m teaching you, to SPEND the money where it counts the most.”, back when we were very young, he’d taught us, “Money is hard to come by, when you have your own families, every dollar you make needs to be put to use properly, you must know how to assign your assets to all the needed areas of expenses, so you won’t have to live on hard, understand?”

Sometimes in class, I’d shared with my students, on how my father had, educated us. My students who were naïve would joke, “Ms. Lee, your father is so stingy! Whatever I wanted, my dad would buy it for me.” Hearing that, it may be nothing. But I’d asked the students, “then, do you know how much the utilities cost, how much the foods at your house cost, everything you use, along with how much is your cram school fees?”, my student became stumped.

The parents should NOT leave behind the inheritances for their young, but the assets instead; why do I call it that? Assets includes the ability to solve the problems that you may face daily, along with the information you receive every day, along with how to plan out your lives, this, is the sort of inheritances that should be passed down to your own young.

Looking at the way those scam artists who were extradited back here how they all appeared, in this society of reduced birthrate, how to set a better example for the next generations, that, is an undeniable asset for our own next generations.

And so, the intangible inheritances are WAY more valuable than the dollars and cents you can leave for your own young, because, having a skill is WAY more important than having those cash or that money set aside in a foundation by your parents for you, because with a skill, you CAN and WILL be able to survive anywhere, no matter how hard the times get, while if you only gave your kids an inheritance of your hard earned dollars, what’ll happen, when they used that up, and didn’t have a skill to live off of, huh?
