The Stories of Their Mothers, Told by the Newly Migrated Women’s Children

Programs that helps children stay in learning mode, programs that gives back to the local communities, from the papers, translated…

As Mother’s Day Approaches, the 16 children from immigrated women didn’t prepare the cakes, or the meals, but were taught by professionals, to record down their mother’s life in film, and made it into a book to get published. The Shoushan Middle School instructor, Mr. Chiu and Mr. Chen had taught the kids voluntarily to play guitar, to start a band, so everybody can see that there are, more than one way to succeed.

The Yuanta Foundation hosted the Dream Fulfilling plans forum, invited six of the dream fulfilling units to share the results.

Sixteen children under twelve from migrated mothers came from the mountains of Kaohsiung, through eight of the professional photography instructors, used the cameras, documented their mothers, and made it into a collection, “My Mom’s the Female Lead: Stories with Photos”, and, they’d, given 100 books to the city libraries in Kaohsiung. The sixth grader, Lee said “I didn’t know what mom busied about the house for, through this plan, I’d understood mom better, and found that she’d worked too hard, I want to tell her ‘I love you, mom’”.

Another group who was also from the mountains, were a band “Wagi” comprised of students and teachers of Jie-Shou Middle School, the five Atayal kids and their instructors, Chen, Chiu went on stage to perform, they’d performed the song they’d written themselves, “Children of the Sun”, the children’s heightened singing brought the house down. The lead counselor, Lin said, that these children were mostly from the lower end of the socioeconomic status, and they might risk dropping out of school, but, after they’d started teaching music to them, their temperament changed, and, they’d reported to school like they were supposed to now.

What’s worth mentioning was, the English instructor, Chiu was originally a street artist, because he’d wanted to teach the students music, he’d gone around, borrowed the instruments. Chiu said, that the guitars were borrowed from the middle school substitutes, he was so very happy that he could give back to the students, and through the Dreams Foundation which had donated $300,000N.T., they’re now able to buy the music stands, the drums, and guitars, as well as other musical instruments, to help the students learn to play music without any worries.

So, this still showed how children who are learning the arts and music won’t turn bad, and, this would be a very important program for kids in this area, and, these are young children, who are, using their own special methods, to record the milestones of their own lives…
