The Person I Looked Up to the Most…

A child, who’d, misinterpreted the teacher’s point, translated…

That was, a systematic, a closed up, a rule-is-rule-is-rule era of life, even as the children were told to write the essays, they’re, expected, to do so like fitting the numbers into an equation.

This was “who” she’d looked up to the most, image from online…查看來源圖片

That day, we were supposed to write on the topic of, “The person I looked up to the most”, as an elementary age kid, I’d recalled how my favorite cartoon was the “Mighty Mouse”, so I’d put down: the person I looked up to the most is Mighty Mouse, because he’s not only cute, he’s also, very brave! He’s very good at kicking the butts of bad guys to save the good people………as my teacher read, she’d gotten very angry, said that Mighty Mouse wasn’t a person, told me to do a rewrite back home.

That very evening, I sat underneath the lamplight, contemplating, WHO is it, that I was, supposed to, look up to the most? Felt, that there’s, nobody in this world, worth that much energy from me, then suddenly, I was reminded of how dad took me to watch the sword-fighting movie of “The Fourteen Female Swordfighters”, it was very majestic, it’d, made my blood broiled as I watched! And so, with my little hand, I’d written, character by character, with my pencil: the people I looked up to the most are the fourteen swords fighting ladies, because they’re no only all very attractive, but they’re, very good at fighting too………then, I got my essay book tossed back, for yet, another rewrite again, but my teacher didn’t get angry, just handed me a copy of the children’s newspaper, pointed to the related topics, told me to read up, then told me, to write about someone real in life, like the writers on the papers had done, like how the writer in the paper had, written about a politician at the time.

then, she wrote about someone like this…image from online…查看來源圖片

And, just like that, a simple essay question had, tortured me for two nights. Being young as I, I’d not had any idea of politics, and so, I can only write that the person I looked up to the most was my dad, because he’d taken me places, to the movies, to the great foods, and after I had my time, then, he’d, rushed me to do my assignments, and told me, that we need a sense of justice in order to become good people…and finally, the teacher gave me a pass, barely, but she had, “struck out the part about the movies, and the foods, and how he’d allowed me to have the funs I needed, before he made me do my assignments”.

Later on, as my father read through my writings, he was, glad and upset at the same time; glad that I’d, written about him, and, sad, that his place of greatness in my belief, was not as high as the Mighty Mouse’s.

and then, finally this…her dear, old D-A-D…查看來源圖片

This sounded like something a lower grade student had, experienced, the thing is, that when you’re that young, you hadn’t met enough people yet, and, mostly, you’d watched an assortment of cartoons, and that, was probably why the child here wrote about the cartoon character, which wasn’t what the teacher had, expected from her, and, that is why it is, important, to devise the topics that are, related to the developmental stages of children for them to write on.
