The Resources for Care Lacking Even More for Early Onset Dementia than the Elderly Population Who Were Diagnosed

The lacking of the care systems for this group of demented individuals who are diagnosed with the early-onset form of dementia, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

Compared to the assets allotted to the dementia in the elderly years, the resources that those diagnosed with early onset dementia are comparably, lacking. TADA pointed out, that although there are over a hundred community care locations locally to provide the services and help of care, but, the mainstream of the elderly care programs might not fit to those diagnosed with early onset dementia, hoping, that the local communities can develop the services, to make the living areas friendlier for those with early onset dementia.

The C.E.O. of TADA, Lai said, that “those diagnosed with early onset might still be the pillar of economic support of their separate homes”, they have parents to care for, children and wives too, they’re still active in the workforce, this is quite different compared to the elderly who are demented, who are retired, with a pension fund to live off; the younger populations are more able-bodied, more energetic, which makes it hard for them to adapt to a quieter style of life, and even some still have their work abilities.

A lot of those diagnosed with early onset dementia quit their job after they were diagnosed, they’d lost their work, and the families lost the source of economic support. Lai believed, that the social welfare programs needed to help those diagnosed with early onset with the transitions into different jobs, or to encourage the enterprises to help those who are diagnosed switch to an alternative position at work; but because there’s limited funding for the privately sponsored groups, with limited personnel, the central and local governments need to take the lead, to help the communities develop into a care center for the demented, a daycare program, even. Compared to Japan, the Japanese in just one county, had twenty to thirty daycare centers set up for those diagnosed with early onset dementia, and we have a lacking of it.

The caretaker, Chuang who’d looked after her 61-year-old demented husband for eight years told, that those diagnosed with early onset are more energetic, they couldn’t just do the quieter kinds of activities all day long, and the caretakers needed to work alongside the patients, “but a lot of the members of the families don’t know where to take them”, a lot of the communities lacked the transitional environment or the space for it, and there are, almost no places where the caretakers can come together, to share their experiences with one another.

So, compared to the elderly population who were diagnosed with dementia, the early onset are more active, because they’re at the prime of their lives, and have different needs in care compared to the elderly version of dementia, and so, there’s a need, for a “playground” of sorts for these individuals with early onset dementia, that we still don’t have yet.
