I Will Never Have a Wedding Banquet Again!

A memorable wedding banquet this is, people arriving late, people getting TICKED off, because they’re all hungry, waiting for everybody to arrive, to finally start eating, call this, the “application” of Murphy’s Law if you will, translated…

After a chaotic wedding, I’d become, Mrs. Chen.

That was on a weekend, the wedding banquet was set at six in the evening, at the commercial building in Ximenting in Taipei. My in-law’s families and friends came from Ruifang to Taipei, on the two tour busses that my father-in-law hired, but because of the traffic, they’d not arrived on time; my mother worked hard, ushering in the guests, and, greeted each table, and kept apologizing to the guests who are, really getting anxious, in the end, she’d gotten angered herself and her blood pressure hiked, and she’d turned to me, red in the face with anger, “Are your in-laws dissatisfied with you as a daughter-in-law? Let’s not become in-laws with them then!”

Finally, the eight tables’ guests from my in-laws’ families were all here, it was, past eight, and, as newlyweds, we’d, gotten, chased out into the banquet hall by the workers who were, grim in the face, then, the waiters served the dishes, they’d, thrown the plates, and, about three dishes in, the two of us were sent on a table-by-table greet and thanks for the guests. During which time, my husband’s college classmates’ table seemed to have a few less dishes served to them, they’d had a verbal altercation with the waiters, making it even more chaotic.

That, was such, a trying wedding, I’d sworn right then and there: god, I shall, NEVER be married again!

And, this swear, seemed to have, worked, yesterday, my husband and I just, celebrated our fortieth, my best friend made fun of me on LINE: Do you want another wedding, with the wedding march playing, to celebrate your ruby anniversary?

Everything that can possible go wrong on your perfect day, had gone wrong, the guests arrived late, the waiters got annoyed, and, you were, CHASED out into the halls, instead of walking down that aisle leisurely, and, the two of you got chased out to offer the thanks around the tables, and, it’s just, a whole lot of mess on that day, and it was also, quite memorable too, but, enough WAS enough, you will, NOT go through all of that again! But look, you two had, passed your fortieth wedding anniversary, in a blink of an eye, so, how the wedding went, does NOT dictate if you two would last or not!
