Finding a way, to relieve the stress and the burdens of taking care of a demented elderly parent, translated…
Having need to take care of my progressive demented mother, it’s, truly, not easy. I’d battled wits with her during the day time, surveilled her; in the evenings, even though I’d, slept right by her, I’d always stayed, alert, worried that she may get up in the middle of the nights, and wander off. I’m over sixty now, and I’d felt, fatigued often.
But thankfully, I have a will and able-bodied wife to help me look after my mother, so I have the opportunity to volunteer at a nursing home, to learn some skills in caretaking and the techniques too, and I’d gotten the opportunities to trade my thoughts with other volunteers, and slowly, I’d found the way to de-stress.
In order to slow down the deterioration process, the Department of Public Sanitations and the social workers recommended that I sign up for a daycare center for my mother; there are the professional caretakers to teach us the techniques of caretaking, and there are also, more opportunities for my mother, to increase her interactions with elderly her age. And now, my mother loved going to the classes offered at the daycare center, and stopped showing signs of deteriorating further, and, as I’d taken her home at night, she’d become, easier to care for.

It’s nothing easy, looking after patients of dementia, only through adjusting our attitudes, find a hobby, and seeking out the resources available, can we get the stresses of caretaking alleviated, to have enough time to recharge ourselves.
And so, taking care of demented elderly is no easy task, and the burden most often, rests on the primary caretaker, the children, and, if the caretaker can’t find a way to relieve her/his stress, then, chances are, the caretaker would fall ill, and, the elderly wouldn’t have the care that s/he is required to have, so, take care of yourselves first, then, you can, take care of those you love, and, there are, a TON of available resources all around us, you just need to, know where to find the help you need.
