Hidden Behind, that Straightened Back: a Woman Who Was Taken by Life’s Hardships, and Giving in to Her Destiny

Observations, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

I’d, bumped into Mrs. Chen this morning again as she took her child to school, with the help from the special eds instructor, Mrs. Chen spent all her might, to carry her son out of the car, and the child told them, that he’d not needed any assistance at all, and, worked hard, to navigate his own wheelchair, through the ramps, and got into his class via the elevators.

Seeing the back of the child, I’d struck up a conversation with Mrs. Chen; her daughter was injured when she was younger, became paralyzed from the waist down, she’d gone to see all the doctors possible, and, slowly, had, come to the acceptance that her daughter will, never walk again. I felt extremely moved by what this family gave, and inquired her about what the school needs in the hardware, to make her daughter’s life easier; and, only until you’d experienced through this need, will you realize, the necessity of the hardware improvements.

But, this is an old school, and, there’s, just too much renovations needed, and only a limited amount of funding, and we can, only, maintain it within the realms of what was, absolutely, necessary, the rest would be reliant on the I.E.P.s, to tailor to the students’ individual learning needs.

The family had its share of hardships, the father worked, the mother took care of the son full-time, there’s, such a weakened support system from the community outside, but the statements from the mom, “Just love her, accepting all about her, that, was what will, keep us all going on strong!”, which showed, the family’s helplessness in the society.

And so, you see, that there’s, this necessity of the hardware improvements, but, there’s, little to NO funding to spend on it, and, these children who were supposed to have been, guaranteed a proper education, are still, struggling, finding their ways, to match up to the standards of the rest of the world, and it’s just unfair, because every child should BE entitled to an education that is suited, just for her/him, it’s called, an I.E.P., but, in these smaller schools, there’s, that lacking in funding…
