Measures to take, to help children to DISCONNECT to the internet, and to go outside and interact with the world around more, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
The Department of Health & Sanitations on the ninth, announced the listing of “Online Gaming Addictions” as a psychological disorder. And, we can expect the number of patients diagnosed with this to grow to the sole causes of psychological illnesses, and we can predict, that this can affect families, interpersonal relations, as well as work greatly too.
As a parent, I’d disliked my children and my grandchildren to focus on the internet and not me, but, am I, more, interesting than the internet? As a teacher, seeing how my students slide on their cell phones repeatedly, it’d, affected my moods, but, are my lecture topics more viable to them, in helping them to engage themselves socially? As someone lowered her/his head to her/his cell phone, I’d tried to say something more interesting, hoping, that what I’m saying, can peak the individual’s interest, for her/him, to lift her/his head to look at me.
As a member of the Psychological Health Council of the Department of Health and Social Welfare, I care a lot about addictions, but, I believed firmly, that there is, NOTHING that the Department of Health and Social Welfare can do, to affect some changes in internet addictions. And, this topic was, least discussed, least brought up, without the concrete measures of resolving, in ALL the meetings, but, it also, takes up most of our time in meetings to work through; and if we don’t get the Department of Education, the Department of Culture, the Transportation Department, and the Department of Tourism, to work hand-in-hand with us on this, then, nothing will affect the changes in behaviors of personal usage of hi-tech devices.
In recent years, the scholars called out for attention to bar the children from some websites, to deal with cyberbullying more effectively, but, none of these plans amounted to, much. Because we need to surpass the legislature, the discussion of a way to resolve the issues, agreeing on one measure to take, and the government simply, doesn’t have the heart, NOR the mind, to effectively interfere.
Whilst, the government just can’t sit and do nothing either, after all, the problems caused by teens getting addicted to online and hi-tech devices affects the realms of school, and enterprises too, so what can we do? We should return to the basic principals of psychology, and find an alternative, instead of just barring the use.
Those who are addicted to internet are normally, loners, and, family and schools provide the interactions in group. The addicted are distant from interpersonal relations, and the parents and school officials should encourage them to get involved more in the activities available to them.
The government should provide more free spaces outside. The online addicts’ overreliance on the internet sees the online community as the primary sources of their activities in life, the cultural or education departments should provide more physical activities that are, free. The addicted people are seeking thrills in the online games, the schools and the tourist attractions should set up more physically stimulating equipment that’ll offer the same sort of stimulations that people are seeking through playing the games online.
As the internet had that tightened grip on the younger generations, warning, control, threats, even corrections, won’t work, if you don’t, enlarge the spaces or offer more ways for the children to find alternative forms of entertainment.
And so, this is, only PART of the solution of the modern day tech addiction for children and teen, the work needs to be done at home, I think, because if the parents are sliding on their cell phones, their tablets, or whatevers whenever they have the free time, instead of interacting with their own young, taking them places to visit, to travel, etc., etc., etc., then, what makes you think, that when the children are left alone, they’re, more than likely, to go to the parks, the playgrounds, to play???
