Cases that went, totally, C-O-L-D here, now, there’s this new law, waiving the statutory period of these cold cases, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
The Legislative Department yesterday passed an amendment, that there would be, no statutory period for crimes that involved taking the life of another; the Criminal Investigative Agency stated, that there are currently, over seven unsolved murders, like the murder in the Lin Mansions, the murder of Ban-Yo Liu, the former county manager in Taoyuan, that although after the bill passed into law, there’s no press from the statutory period, but, there were cases that hadn’t found the light for thirty years, “how can we expect, that fifty years from now, the truth will come out?”
The Detective Agency stressed, that the police had neve given up on solving these cold cases, that if the perpetrators are already, dead, the police continued trying to solve these cases just the same.
The rough draft of the bill stated, “the Statutory period is in counting, but hadn’t, yet expired” would be cases that fitted, including the murder in 1980 of the former DPP’s chairman, Lin’s families’ murders, the 1981 murder in N.T.U. of Wen-Cheng Chen, because the cold case department of the Criminal Investigation Unit still kept chasing the leads, they can still prosecute, if a suspect came into the light.
And so, despite how most of these cases had gone “cold”, because of this new law, there’s still, the opportunities, of brings the perps to justice, because the statutory period is waived now, and, hopefully, justice will eventually, be served!
