In an Abandoned Old-Style Mansion, after Her Husband Passed Away, She’d Accompanied His Body for Five Days

A couple, the Chiaos who didn’t have a home and was in bad economic situation squatted inside Chiao’s wife’s parents deserted old-style mansion; after Chiao, with the progressive conditions died, his wife, who only had a hundred dollars left on her, couldn’t pay for his funeral, after accompanying his body for five days, she’d turned to the temple that took them in to help. Chiao’s wife told, that she’d loved her husband so, and couldn’t bear the thought of him being taken from her side, that, was why she’d not notified the police when her husband died.

The local police substation said, that the Chiaos weren’t listed as low-income, there were no other family or relatives who’d showed to help out, the police already notified the department of the government responsible, hoped, to help Chiao’s wife to file for assistance, and had worked with the temple, to help with Chiao’s final affairs; Chiao’s wife is temporarily staying with the temple, so they can help calm her down.

The police found, that Chiao (age 61) and his wife (age 56), due to their economical situation, had squatted in the broke down car that was at Chiao’s parents’ abandoned estate, because they didn’t have any money for gas, they’d walked for six hours to Tienliao to a temple, and took the rice and canned goods to live off; they’d cooked in the open areas, and there are, no other residents living close.

Chiao had a heart condition, high blood pressure and diabetes, and other progressive conditions, and because he’d owed the money for the health insurance plans, the card already got locked from before; the couple didn’t know, that the Department of Health Insurances had scrapped the rules of having the cards locked when they couldn’t make the payments, because Chiao who wasn’t treated, on the 27^th of last month, he was suspected of being dead because of his conditions. Back then, Chiao’s wife who only had a hundred dollars left on her, accompanied his body for five days, then, on the third of this month, went to the temple that’s helped them from before to seek assistance, and the temple immediately notified the police.

The police came, with Chiao, dead next to the chair close to the car, with NO signs of struggle, the body was already swollen, and lividity had already, set in. Chiao’s wife cried and told them, that he’d died many days ago, and she only had a hundred dollars left on her, couldn’t manage to set up his final affairs.

And so, this, is quite sad, that this woman had to, accompany her dead husband for days, until she’d finally found help, and, that just showed, how sometimes, the information couldn’t get to those who’d needed it the most, because the couple didn’t know that the department of health insurances had already, scrapped that rule on locking up their treatment cards.
