How his work had, helped shaped his children’s characters, something that’s, started, at a young age, translated…
As a documentary filmmaker, whose subjects are the whales and the dolphins, other than trying to stay in Taiwan, during the months of June through August, when the waves were most, steady, to record the whales and dolphins that appeared on the eastern coastlines, most of the other times in the year, we’d, migrated with the dolphins and whales, and gone wherever they went, to film.
As my two sons were born, it was, right around the time, as I’d, gone underwater, to film the whales and dolphins. Ever since they can recall, their dad would vanish for a period of time every year, and, run to this weird place of “Why would it be nighttime where we are, and daylight where you are”. And, even IF I’m with them in Hualien, every time there’s the news of “there’s something weird going on out in the waters” (thee terms us, sea mammal chasers used)”. Even if I were in Hualien with them, daddy would sling all his equipment around his back, set up the boats, and, readied himself for the dives into the oceans. And so, my two children had the opportunities, to watch me, as I get fitted with the divers’ equipment, then, leapt, into the oceans.

Perhaps, this had, influenced them too, whether it be the boats they take their baths with, or the boats made from their Lego blocks, they would always put the ordinary crew members, along with a photographer figure, at the head of the ships, ready, to leap in, to film underwater!
I’d once thought, wait until they’d started going to school, what would their teachers, and classmates, think of, the way, they’d, set up their toys to play? But, perhaps, I’d, worried too much, because, I’d quickly enough, gotten, invited, to their classes, to talk to a bunch of children, about the stories of the sea creatures, and the images I’d, taken of them. Yup, as it should, toward the harder to explain jobs that other parents in their classes were doing, perhaps, what I’m doing, is, much, much, much easier for the children to understand.
And so, this, is a father’s reflection, on how his job had, influenced his own young, and, being a photographer of wildlife in the oceans, must’ve brought the awareness of the environments to his own life, which he had, transferred, to his own young’s life, and, being raised in this sort of a family, the children are more than likely, to grow up, being, more aware of the environmental issues around their living environments.
