The Son, Who Bought a Heater for His Parents

The kindness of the son toward his parents, and his mother finally saw it, with his younger sister’s help in explaining his heart behind the gift to them, translated…

It’d been a long, long time since I’d, visited my mother back home, and that day, as I’d, just stepped into the house, my mother frowned and told me, “Look, your older brother sent things here again!”, I’d looked at the unopened box, “a heater? That’s really nice! Why don’t you, open it up and use it?”

Turns out, that my parents who’d lived their lives in the simplest manners, on the colder days, they’d only, put on extra clothing, they’d never, used a heater before. My father who worked as an engineer in his former years, as he’d received all electronics, the first reaction he had was to look at the item, then, read through the user manual, and, after discussing it with my mother, believed, that the item is almost useless to them, and just, placed it aside.

My mother said, since my older brother became the manager of the hospital, he’d had a ton of things each and every day, he’d needed to perform the surgeries, then, needed to go on the rounds to check on his patients, that day, he’d, dropped the electric heater home to them, then, rushed off, to pack up, to head to that medical surgical conference abroad the very next day. My mother felt awful that my older brother was already so busy, and still bought them something that they may need.

I’d smiled and told her, “Mom, this is, the newest ‘heartwarming air-heater’ on the market! Older brother must think, how the weather’s turning colder, and wanted to help you protect your vascular systems, he truly is, a fitting, and a loving son to the both of you!”

After my mother heard me, she’d, become stumped for a bit, then, smiled, “Yep! He’d been very busy, but still made the trips back to visit us, and brought things to us, and how come, I’d only, nagged him on spending too much money?”

I’d helped my parents unwrapped the box, connected to the outlet on the walls, and, as the heated air came out of the air-heater, my parents not only felt the warmth in their feet, their bodies, but their hearts also.

This, is generally how Asian parents react when their young bought something for them: that it was, a waste of money, without realizing, that giving them these items, is our ways of showing that we loved and cared about them.
