The Rescuer’s Heart Wrenched, for Not Saving the Life of His Old Friend’s Child

Feeling the loss, from the life he’d, not had the opportunity to save, his friend’s child’s, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

The First Squad’s Zhongzhen fire station’s lieutenant, Hsieh was a man from Hualien; in the shortest time after the huge earthquake, he’d arrived on the transporter plane home to help; as he was searching the hotel, after learning that the man, buried below in the rubbles, Ji-Shuan Chou was his old friend’s son, he’d felt, awful.

Ji-Shuan Chou was a native of the Takoro tribe in Hualien, his mother works as the development center’s manager of the local communities, Hsieh said, that he and Chou’s mother were old friends, and had a ton of common friends too, at the sight of the hotel collapse, he’d learned, that the one he was trying to save was is good friend’s son, he was, feeling a mixture of emotions.

Chou was buried in about three meters’ rubbles, Hsieh stated, that at first, he’d found echoes from deep underneath the ground, he’d consoled with Chou’s mother, “Don’t worry, he’s alive”, the woman told Hsieh excitedly, “tell Ji-Shuan you’re my friend.”

Hsieh first discovered Chou’s shoes, and felt that something wasn’t right, then, he’d switched and had the members of the search and rescue team from another county and city to continue conducting the searches. Chou moved to the side, and call up his friend, to be prepared for the worst. Chou and his mother were very close, Chou has two sons, and kept hoping, that Ji-Shuan can get married soon, and now, this wish will, NEVER come true.

“I’m sorry, I’d come, too late! But, I can finally, take you all outside.”, as the lieutenant, Cheng from the Chiayi Fire Department found the Canadian couple with Hong Kong descent, the woman, Hsiao’s body was still, soft, and he’d suspected, that she’d died, not too long ago, but her husband, Su’s body was already, decomposing, the two of them were hugging onto one another, and it’d, made the rescuers cried as they saw.

Two years ago, Cheng had gone to the search for the earthquake that’s happened in Tainan, he said, that there are, more damages in the Tsuei-Ti Hotel in Yunmen than Wei-Guan Hotel, but, there were, the aftershocks that came too quickly, that it’s become, hard, for the rescuers to climb down to the rubbles, it was, too hard, to even, stand up still.

The search & rescue squad’ lieutenant from Taipei, Liu was one of the senior search and rescue workers, as the earthquakes started up in Hualien, he was already at home, ready for bed, and after his home started, shaking, he’d, instinctively felt, that something wasn’t right, plus, the group on his work for LINE told of the earthquakes, and he’d, immediately arrived back at the station, to head over to Hualien to help out.

He’d joined the search and rescue teams locally on the early morning of the seventh, Liu directed the rescuers to enter into the Yunmen Tsuei-Ti Building to search, and, he’d called out on the ninth floor, and gotten a reply, broken the door down, and saved a woman from South Korea, and Liu helped her out, and handed her to the paramedics, the very next morning in the early hours, they’d found a woman from China on the second floor, but, unfortunately, she’d, already, died.

And so, these rescuers’ jobs are never easy, especially when you don’t know what you’ll find, if the victims of a natural disasters are still alive, or, if they’re, already gone, and, you can only, hope and pray for the best, and, working in this field of work must be extremely hard, because you see life and death, every single day.
