What this family who owned a B&B understood about life and other things, when natural disasters hit, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
My parents owned a B&B in Yuli, located at the southern tip of Hualien, and, although the local didn’t get impacted by the earthquakes, but, the earthquake that hit the city of Hualien had caused the already formerly fully booked hotels, to get canceled.
A heartless natural disaster caused many to lose their homes, with the casualties, and because, people feared that it may happen again, and, altered their travel plans; the plans never catch up to the changes, after we’d done all we can, we leave, everything else, UP to fate.
The calls from my relative, friends from al over the island, and, those tourists who’d once stayed in our B&B all called, to show care and concerns. Yes, we are, among the lucky ones, although there’s, no more business at our B&B, but at least, all of us are, safe and sound, and yet, there’s still, that smallest hope that I have, to allow the citizens in Hualien, to rebuild their homes back up soon, to return to the original state of safety, of beauty, of that flourishing economy, instead of living in constant fear.
And so, the most important thing in these sorts of natural disasters is, that you’re, still alive, and if you’re still alive, then, nothing ELSE can be a bother to you, and even if you’d lost your customers, so what? You can always build up that clientele again, but if you’d lost your lives, or got injured, then, there’s, NO future. So, having your lives is the most important thing as these, natural disasters hit.
