This, is the problems, with the migrant workers, watching over your elderly who are demented, or children who are very young, and this, is what’ll be happening, because this population, is aging fast, and there would be, many, many, and many, many, MANY more elderly who become demented in the future! From the Front Page Sections, translated…

The Indonesian woman, MAESAROH came to Taiwan to work as a nurse’s aide, looking after a demented elderly man, she’d become, homesick, and ran off for four hours, leaving the elderly unattended, her employer sued; as the judge was ruling over the case, she’d claimed, “Grandpa was in NO immediate danger!”, but the Taipei District Court believed, that the elderly being looked after has the mindset of a two, three year old child, and, if nobody’s at home, then, the elderly is at risk, and found her guilty of abandonment, gave her three months in prison, and she’s on probation for two years.

The verdict pointed out, that the demented elderly was not an infant, nor was he a plant, that when he’s left alone, he’s not, immobile, and that even if it’s at home, there might be dangers, like for instance, the earthquake, the houses collapsing, or the wires caught fire, the gas leaks, and once any of these happens, the elderly can only, sit and wait, for death.

The 81-year-old elderly man, He is severely handicapped and demented, in 2014, he was found, to be, totally incapacitated in caring for himself, and needed to be under someone else’s custody, He’s daughter found MAESAROH from a human resource agency, to look after him.

One noon a month later, the nurse’s aide took the advantage of the time that the family was out, left the elderly alone, and didn’t call the agency that set her up to work in the family until four in the afternoon; after He’s daughter found out, she’d sued, and the nurse’s aide was charged with abandonment.

MAESAROH denied having abandoned the elderly, claimed, “Grandpa hits me”, and that “grandpa’s daughter would come to deliver the meals, I knew she was coming, that was why I left at noon.”

The judge believed, that the psych evaluation from the hospital stated, that He had lost all of his abilities to live on his own, that he’d needed around the clock care by someone else, and the medical reports also showed, that He only has a mindset of a two, to three year-old, he’d had difficulties expressing himself, not knowing what is changing in his immediate environment, and was diagnosed with dementia, along with other multiple disabilities, and needed more attentive care than normal elderly people.

The verdict pointed out, that MAESAROH was willing to fly over the oceans to come to Taiwan to work as a nurse’s aide, and as she’d taken the job, the agency, as well as the family who’s hired her told her of the work conditions, and the elderly’s conditions, that she should have more patience toward him, otherwise, it would’ve destroyed the motives of having foreign care workers like her coming to Taiwan.

The lightest sentence for abandonment is over six months, but, because the judge considered how the family is in need of her to look after the elderly, he’d sentenced her to just three months in prison, and put her on probation.

Yeah, uh, that’s, a SLAP on the wrists for this woman, and it didn’t matter if the woman just “ran off” for FOUR hours, a lot can happen, what IF the elderly man who was left alone fell down, and couldn’t get up, or worse, what if, he had some sort of a heart condition? This caretaker was way too careless, and I get that taking care of the elderly who are ill is not an easy thing, but hey, you were the ones, to SIGN on for this work, it’s not as if anybody pointed a GUN to your heads, and say, “hey, go and take care of the elderly in our populations, or else”, is there? No, and yet, this is what’s happening right now.
