Innovative ideas, with the good designs of the courses these men come up with, offering to the school children, it’s a good program, that helps children with learning new things, and it keeps them from being too bored during the long vacations, translated…

The Hsinbei City’s Alternative Army Service Terms had the alternative servicemen host a three-day winter camp every year, and the alternative servicemen used ALL their skills, the light & shadow puppeteering, the magic tricks, along with street dancing tricks, and, the men must pass through the series of auditions, in order, to get selected to lead the children. The camp this year, is in the Yomu Elemetary School in Sanxia, and the three-day long camp starts today.

Each and every year, the call for forty to fifty servicemen is needed, and even though, it’s only, for just three days, the servicemen had, prepared for the courses for more than three months’ time; and, as the camp was coming to an end, at the end of camp exhibitions, the children were crying so hard, not wanting to part with the adults who’d, lead them.

The man in charge of calling on the volunteer servicemen teams, Shih, who was serving his alternative service terms at Chajiao Elementary School, said, that those who’d done the alternative service terms in schools are usually, interested in the field of education, but normally, as they’d worked in the schools, they’d become stuck in the middle, between the formal school instructors and the children, like older brothers who’d, accompanied the children, that they’d wanted to, have more direct contacts with the children through the winter camp programs.

Shih told, that this year, the camp had selected the Yomu Elementary School in Sanxia to hold the courses, and there were, a total of 150 children from the nearby schools in Chajiao, Wuliao Elementary schools who’d attended the program, the servicemen had, divided the teams of expertise into activities, education, and many more, and assigned the duties of each of the teams; the most troubling would be, taking care of the daily living routines of the students, plus, the school where the winter camps were hosted was located at a distant region, with not enough busses, the teams had, hired the busses, to get ALL 150 students to the classes on time.

Wang, who was an alternative serviceman of the program had set up the class for the shadow puppeteering, he’d once taken up the shadow puppeteering lessons as the Ming Chu Museum of Arts, and later, he’d taught himself the skills, by watching the videos, he’d wanted to help the kids to get to know this traditional form of art through things like Pokemon and Batman.

There was also the sports and outdoors program this year, with baseball, dancing on the streets, filmmaking, board games, along with science experiments too, and, they’re all, what the alternative servicemen were, specialized in. Shih said, that there’s, only a limited number of spots for the services, and every year, they’d received an influx of requests from other alternative servicemen who’d wanted to be a part of the programs, and there were, a lot of the servicemen who’d, returned in the summers and winters during the school vacations, to work as the teachers who’d, led these programs.

And so, this is a great program, to help the children have a more enriching vacation, and, the men in these programs, are very creative, coming up with an assortment of recreational activities such as arts and crafts, and traditional Chinese things to teach the students, no wonder all the kids who’d participated in this program kept coming back each and every year.
