Staying active as we age, that is, the MOST important thing at hand these days!!! Keys to aging gracefully, translated…

Based off of statistics, only sixteen percent of elderly over age 65 in Taiwan needed long-term care, the remaining 84 percent are mobile. In order to encourage the elderly population to establish a brand new life after retirement, the two retired heads of department of sanitation, Yang and Yeh shared their experiences.

Yang, Yeh, and the long-term actress, Ai-Jen Tang, the CEO of the felt factory, Chen, the lifetime volunteer, Yueh Sun, the authority in breast cancer research, Chang, a total of twelve seniors over age sixty-four, shared their secrets to aging well and gracefully, and how to live happily as one ages.

Three years ago, Yeh was diagnosed with lymphoma, he’d had surgeries on both his eyes, electro therapies, and target treatment therapies, after close to dying, he’d gotten an in-depth understanding, and wrote out his bucket list carefully, there were, ninety-nine dreams, and the list is still being renewed daily by him.

Yeh said, that he’d done a lot of crazy things, running the marathons, hiking up the hundred tallest peaks in Taiwan, white water rafting in the glaciers, parachuting too. He believed, that as we age, we need the dreams, and encouraged those older than sixty-five who are retired, to chase their dreams, to just do it, leaving NO regrets in life. He’d suggested that those who are able, to keep on working, but no longer for the sake of money, for the joys, find that sense of achievement, to take advantage of now.

Yang, who works as a C.E.O. of the elderly developmental industries found, that after age eighty-five there were still, fifty percent of elderly who can live independently on their own, that if we can work to keep our independence, like planting the vegetables, then we will be able to, raise the standards and the qualities of our own lives, and have that sense of comfort during our elderly years.

And so, this just shows, how important it is, to stay ACTIVE (of course, active doesn’t mean doing risky things like these men are doing like parachuting!), but just continue to socialize, to interact with the world around, and that, is how you will be able to, live long, happy, and healthy.
