An option for the students in college here, to broaden UP their horizons, before they get into the real world of working, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

The outlook of a country is dependent on the developments of the younger generations, and, the developments of the younger generations come from education and learning. The younger generations, compounded with low wages, high housing prices, how will they, overcome these obstacles and still come out on top? One of the method is in going abroad to study while still in school, to broaden your horizon; as the year begins, this can be what the college students contemplate on. I teach at a university, and I’d often seen that the college students apply for the study abroad programs, including foreign exchange student programs or dual-credit programs too, so I can understand the importance of this trend in the life of a university student.

The multiple markets of Taiwanese industries are abroad, and, the productions, the investments are, all over the world, and so, there’s, this dire need, for people with the worldly experiences, with an international view of things, and, going abroad to study can add to the chances of you, getting hired in the future. Besides, learning in a different environment, you can experience the various cultures, and broaden your horizons, and better your communication abilities too.

The students who are going abroad should avoid the following: first, if you’re going abroad, for the sole sakes of sightseeing and adventures, then, you shouldn’t waste the time. Secondly, the students from Taiwan easily gathers with other students from Taiwan once abroad, and become this, closed-in clique. The students from Taiwan should have a more open outlook, to discover the world, to meet new friends; and, increase one’s own language skills, to meet more friends internationally.

So how, would the college students actively plan the study abroad? First, awaken that sense of going abroad to study in yourselves. The students from U.S., Europe, Hong Kong and Singapore are already doing this during the semesters; and if the students from Taiwan is to up their competitive levels, then, they need to, catch up to this trend quickly. Secondly, find the way to apply. There are the yearly programs of foreign exchange in various colleges of the major universities all around. IF the school you want to exchange to doesn’t have a connection with your own school, then, file for the applications singularly with the school you want to exchange to. Third, to fully do the prepatory work, after you received your student visas, the students needed to do their homework, understand the curricula of the school you’re exchanging to, the boarding programs, and student activities, and get to know the diets and the local cultures beforehand.

Fourth step is in financial planning. The Department of Education has the scholarship programs for the excellent students as well as students from poverty stricken backgrounds too, and there are, a lot of private facilities that’s set up the scholarship programs for foreign exchange students as well; and, there are the banks that offered the loans programs to students who want to study abroad.

And so, this, is not just a “vacation” program for the students to slack off for a couple of years elsewhere, you’d needed to have the stamina, the ability to keep yourselves in CHECK, otherwise, you will easily, fall to the ways, especially with the education here, the students had their instructors, professors, breathing down their necks from K through to COLLEGE, and, if you don’t have enough self control, you’ll easily, get lost in the programs.
