New Year’s Eve, Best Spent with Family

From the Front Page Sections, translated…

Yesterday, the kids asked my husband and I if we could take them to the Tainan Welcoming in the New Year’s Celebration, and they’d talked childishly, on the expectations of what they will see there.

I’d asked the children, that the performances on stage or the lights and sounds, compared to spending time with the parents, getting together with families, which one has more meaning? My first-year middle school daughter said, that on New Year’s Eve, if she’s without family close by, even IF she’s in the midst of a huge celebration, she’d still felt loss; and my fourth grade son told me, that even if we go to the celebrations, he’d wanted to, hold on tight to both our hands, so he won’t get separated with us in the crowds.

Last night, my husband and I took our two children to the mecca of the celebratory New Year’s Eve party, early this morn, we’d driven to Tainan for the flag raising ceremonies in Tainan City Government, to welcome in the brand new year. With us, holding one another’s hands tight, feeling the warmth that we shared, using this sort of a plain and simple bliss, to face up to all the challenges to come for this brand new year.

And so, it didn’t matter where you go to celebrate the new year, the important thing is you’re with those you care about, those you love, and who love you dearly, like this family’s experience, after all, these celebrations SHOULD be shared with people who know us well, and love us.
