The Patients with Facial Deformities Were Able to See Themselves in the Movie, Wonder

From the Newspapers, translated…

Yesterday, with the sponsors from UDN Foundation and Changgang Hospital in Linkou’s facial deformity patients foundation, there’s a movie event of “Wonder”, to help the patients, as well as their families, to understand facial deformities better, and to how to cope with the conditions in a more positive manner, it’d helped the public understand the right way to treat those with facial deformities better.

The honorary member of the medical board in Changgang Hospital, Chen said, that there’s a nurse who worked in the hospital who was with the facial deformities, that every time she went under the knife, she’d, put up with the pains, and, no matter how many treatments she’d had, she will never be, “normal” again, and she still started a foundation, to help those who are like her, there were also, those with cleft palates who’d become volunteers of the organization too, adding more positive energies to the society.

Chen pointed out, that the facial reconstruction center of Changgang Hospital treats the facial deformities from birth defects to the deformities that the patients were born with, along with patients with the tumors, that almost every year, they’d hosted a gathering of the members, this year, the hospital staff members noted how moving the film, “Miracle” was everybody who worked in the hospital suggested a get-together, after consulting the patients, as well as the members of the families, they’d decided, to host a movie showing event.

“Miracle” is about a pair of parents, who’d helped their own son overcome being bullied because the child has a facial deformity. And, those with the facial deformities had similar experiences as the character in the movie too, they’d feared, cried, and had their separate hardships weathered through life as well. Chen said, the patient in the movie after being discriminated by the society, through the encouragements he’d received, learned to get along with himself better, and, accepted the world as being unfair, and his own facial deformities, and was able to find that source of positive energy that helps him carry on in life.

Chen, the honorary committee member said, that every year, he’d used the time outside from his hospital sessions, to set up gatherings with the patients, getting all the other doctors in his department together, to interact with the patients, and pass along the information on new medical treatment technologies available, and allowed for the patients to join in a session of Q&A, benefitting both the surgeons, the physicians, as well as all the patients who attended these gatherings.

And so, this, is a great program, helping the patients with the facial deformities to slowly, accept themselves as they way they’d become, and to teach them to IGNORE what the outside world perceived them as, and, it’s a long road to recovery, as these patients often come under fire, for looking different than the rest of us in the general public, and it’s these sorts of programs that can offer the needed social support systems, the knowledge, to better educate everybody in the society, about the facial deformities and the causes, so we can slowly, stop discriminating people with these difficulties in their lives.
