This would be, the DOMINO effect of reduced birth rate in this country, commentary on the Front Page Sections, on the decline of birthrate in recent years, translated…
Two years ago, BBC did a documentary “The Great Japanese Retirement”, the small town that’s become, loosely populated, with the elementary school yards looking like abandoned, the swings in the park, rusty, the maternity ward of the hospital became a storage unit, no children were seen on the streets………, this, was no alien invasion, nor was it after the World War, but what’s currently going on in Japan!
I’d warned last year, that the year 2016 might be the last time there were over 200,000 children being born, and I’d called out to the government policies, to consider ways of caretaking seeing how a reduced birthrate is slowly, becoming a trend now, to keep the targeted birthrate of 200,000births per year going. A year had passed since, the Offices of Internal Affairs estimated, that from January to November, there was an estimate of 177,278 newborns; unless there are another 3,000 infants born in December, but it’s, not likely.
In 1950, there were around 400,000 infants born per year, by 1998, the number had, dropped to 300,000, and it’d taken, a sharp drop since the 2000s, and, by 2010, there were, not even 170,000 infants born, we’d, hit the bottom.
Because the primary birth group would be those from after 1983, and yet, there’s, a low rate of marriage for this population, and even if each couple have one to two children, it would be next to impossible, for the country to have a birth of 200,000 infants a year. The government must be alert on this, because this number means, that the sixth graders in the future, those students entering into middle school, graduating high school in eighteen years, entering into college, at most, would be 140,000 people, and this, is the maximum estimates.
If the birth rates continually declined, by next year or the year after, there would be, more deaths than births, and, we would be, faced with a negative growth in population; and, with that, the fast aging population, by 2025, the country would enter into the elderly age society, one out of every five would be elderly. By then, the economics would start declining, with the number of taxpayers on the decrease, the schools crashing, and, those elderly in need of care would be on the increase! The government can only keep on encouraging births, and making the environment more friendly to raise children in, as an “investment” for the future, to slow down the rate of the aging population!
Seeing what had happened in these past two years, the policies, seemed to not work in favor of children who couldn’t vote yet, the “Looking Forward” proposals only put out $600,000,000 N.T., and gave each other a pack that wasn’t worth $1,000N.T.s, and called it, the “treasure chest” of things you need to raise a child with; as for the support in the daycare program, and changing the environment to make it more friendly for mothers, if we wait longer, when the infants being born keep on getting reduced, then, naturally, the supplies and the demands even out! The government’s not willing to invest in the future, and treated the elderly population using an odd attitude, with one hand, pushing the long-term care programs, the other, dipping into the retirement funds.
Some believed, that there’s, a dense population in Taiwan, that we should have a negative population growth, to alleviate the stress, the strains we are now experiencing on energy. Yes, the population density here, is second, to Bangladesh, reducing the number in population should help, somewhat; but the problem is, what’s reduced, is the younger generations, the productivity of the society in the future! Even if the government supported the incentives for population growths, there’s no way that Taiwan will return to the minimum of having enough children, and, there would be, an eternal imbalance of population then.
And so, the younger generations (and yes, I’m still, among “them” too) are not having enough children, because of whatever reasons (i.e. this world is so full of SHIT that I can’t raise my baby up in???) we may have, and there’s not a well-thought out program that functioned for the caretaking in the elderly years, and all of that, factored in, that, is what’s caused this god DAMN crisis right now, and, it can’t be resolved overnight, because, based off my experience, I would NEVER have this already DEAD daughter of mine, so I can have someone to take care of me when I grow old, that, is NOT the purpose of having children! And yet, that, is what this article’s leaning towards: that the purpose of having babies, is so the elderly population are taken care of, because people are living longer, longer, and longer, and therefore, more health issues (cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, etc., etc., etc.) become more and more prevalent!
