I’m from a farming family, I lived in a village close to Dong-Hai University. And from forty years, there were multiple homes who’d kept the livestock, in my fourth grade year, my parents had a bull too, other than letting it graze close to our home, I’d needed to cut off the grass to feed it to him, my childhood friends loved heading into the Dong-Hai University to get the grasses to feed their heard, but as the security guards saw us, they’d always, chased us out.
One day, as we went in the schools, to cut some grasses, the security guard showed up; and, right before he was about to chase us out, the president of the school also showed up, and he’d, immediately told the security guard to let us be. He’d told the security guard, “just allow these kids to take the hay as they’d needed, if they don’t cut the grasses, we’d needed to hire a lawnmower, besides, these children are from our neighboring villages, don’t chase them out anymore, please.
Because of Mr. Wu’s kindness, it’d affected the behaviors of the local farmers, there was only a road for the wagons connecting to the road leading to Donghai University. And, after we’d harvested, we’d relied on this pass to connect to the world outside. In the past, as the wagons pulled by the oxen passed through the campuses, the cow dungs would often be left all over the places on the tarp roads of the school; but after the children’s encounter with the president of the school, the farmers who’d passed by there would always have a broom and a dustpan on their wagons, and as their oxen made droppings, they’d, swept them up immediately.
I’m more than certain, that the buffalos on Yangming Mountain all had owners, and there are more than one household that owned them, and as the buffalos became a part of the sites of Yangming Mountain, the owners should also go in shifts when there are a huge number of tourists there, to look after their herd, so the tourists won’t get scared by the buffalos because they’d not understood the animals at all, in understanding one another, I’m sure, that this cultural site will become, even more meaningful.
And so, this, is the kindness that’s touched this young child’s mind, the encounter with the president of the school made this young child realized, that there are, other alternatives to treating people who get in your way, and, he’d, carried that kindness shown to him from when he was younger, into his current work too.
