Nine years ago, my mom passed away, and dad chose to stay behind at home in Menon, on the land outside the house, it’d became his track field for his daily exercises, and pulling up the weeds, keeping the vegetable gardens became his daily routines. He’s free and able bodied, living alone. But, the years impacted him, after he turned ninety, he’s no longer fitted to live on his own.
So, what happens to his care in his geriatric years? Hiring a foreign caretaker, a caretaker from locally, or, put him into a nursing home? We’d respected his decisions. On May 1 of last year, my father started living in a nursing home back home in Menon, I’d taken him home to stay every Wednesday, and drove him back to the nursing home on the next afternoon.
Two months later, one Thursday morning, my aunt and cousin visited, and my father told him, “I’m an emperor in the nursing homes, I’m waited on hand and foot on everything!” And, that huge burden finally was, lifted from us! My aunt then told us, that my father looked glowing, he’d looked better than I had! That very afternoon, I’d told the social worker what my aunt told me, the accountant next by, Mr. Kuo said, “Of course, we are, professionals!” That’s right, I totally agree. There are the professional nurses, the social workers, the caretakers in the nursing home facilities. If the elders became ill, there would be professionals who’d accompany them to the doctors for treatment (extra fees paid by the families), the workers would show great care and concerns toward the residents, all of these, paled by comparison to if we were to hire a foreign caretaker or if we looked after our elders.
And now, there was, a sudden power outage in the night, I’d not needed to freak myself out, as the earth started shaking without any warnings beforehand, I’d no longer have to stress myself out either, because my ninety-three year-old elderly father IS more than settled, into the nursing homes.
So, this is something that needs to be taken into consideration, because the nursing home staff are trained professionals, they’re more adept to care for the elderly generation, but, the common belief here about nursing home is that those who aren’t cared for, who are unwanted gets sent there to live at old age, and people failed to realize, that in the nursing homes, the elderly might receive even better care than at home with the loved ones, after all, in the nursing homes, there are, TRAINED professionals taking care of the elders…
