The man, Chuang who owned a rice shop in Changwha set himself on fire and is now in critical condition, as Chuang’s wife learned, she’d leapt from her ninth floor home and died; on her last note she’d written to her nine-month old young grandson, “Grandma and grandpa can’t see you grow up to be a man…”, it’d made those who read it sad. The police suspected that the couple were overwhelmed by their accumulated debts of over twenty million dollars, which was what drove them to suicide.

The police investigated, that Chuang (age 55) rode his mo-ped to the bridge next to the Jiu-Ru Fourth Road, and set himself on fire, and the patrol officers were making the rounds and passed by, and they’d pulled Chuang from the fires, notified the ambulance to save him.

The police found that a van and a motorcycle was completely destroyed by the fire, there was that strong scent of gasoline from the van, suspected that Chuang had attempted suicide by using gas. The officers traced the license plate of the motorcycle to Chuang’s residence, and early in the morning at around four yesterday, the police rang the doorbell, to tell Chuang’s daughter of how Chuang sustained third-degree burns all over his body, and was currently intubated in the burn trauma I.C.U. still, Chuang’s wife (age 53), as she’d heard the news, she’d leapt out of the bedroom window, and died.

Chuang’s daughter said, that she woke at around three in the morning, found her father not home, and that he didn’t bring his cell phone, she’d started worrying; and by three in the morn, her mother had been pacing by the bed in her room. The police suspected, that Chuang’s wife was suicidal too, and after she’d learned about her husband’s attempt to suicide, she’d, killed herself by leaping out of the building too.

“I’m truly sorry we have to leave like this, we don’t want to pull you down, we’d lost too much money from the grocery business, don’t set up a shrine for us, no funeral, just see us off in the simplest manners, and do remember, to go to the courts, and to disinherit yourselves.” the final note that Chuang’s wife left in the bedroom showed that they were having money problems.

And so, this couple was pushed through the brink by their debts, and this also showed, how quickly the debts can accumulate up, and how in one instant, someone can decide to end her/his own life so easily.
