The Hsu-Guan High School in Nantou was the only Complete High School, Other than the Middle School and High School Departments, There Were Also Classes for Special Needs Students as Well. The School, in Order for the Students to Gain More Empathy, in the Past Eight Years, it’d Pushed Forth the “Feeding Angels” Program, Assigned the Students from the High School Departments to Feed the Meals to the Special Needs Students in the Middle School Department or to Involve Them with the Extracurricular Activities for the Special Needs Students in the Middle School Levels, to Have a “Handi-Capable” Campus, the School Received the National Specialty Life Education Awards This Year.
The Hsu-Guan High School point4ed out, that the special needs students aren’t that different from the regular students, they’d needed to get socialized, and assimilate into the life of the societies. And because the needs of education for these students, there were two special eds classes in the school, with a total of mildly and profoundly mentally slow students; most students lacked understanding of these students and were curious about them, that, was why the school pushed for the experience courses, hoping to root down some empathy for the students from education.

The head counselor, Hsieh said, that with the profound mentally retarded students, they have poor hand-eye coordination, they’d easily gotten burned as they went to get the hot meals, and, some had difficulties chewing and swallowing the meals, and they’d needed to cut the foods into smaller pieces. And so, the teachers of the school started the voluntary services, with the students from the high school department as a group of “feeding angels”, to help the special needs students.
“From being afraid, to enjoying helping them, I’d felt I’d changed a lot,” the last year student, Chen said, that as he got involved in the programs, he’d learned that the meals program for the special needs students were an hour later than the regular students, it’d stressed the volunteers out on “how do we get along with the special needs students” more; and after they’d started volunteering, they’d realized, that it wasn’t, as hard as they’d imagined it to be, that they’d felt more enriched, from giving back.
The Department Head of Special Education, Hsu said, the very first time the students encountered a tantrum throwing special needs student, they’d usually become flustered, and, as the “feeding angels” helped with the feeding of, getting the meals, the teeth brushing after the meals, and with the dishes, the teachers were close by, giving instructions, and when needed, the instructors would step in too. And now, the number of the “feeding angels” had maintained at thirty to sixty students every year, seeing how the regular students gained more empathy, that empathy is growing stronger as they’d involved themselves, in helping out the special needs students out.

The principal, He said ,through the personally involvements of the students, the students gained empathy, in the process of giving back, they’d learned to be humble and cherished what they have, and they’d designed the courses, to have the students understand families, friendships, and love better, that the students were able to learn gratitude, and find the values in their own lives as well.
So, this, is a great program this school had started, it’d allowed the students to help the students in need, taught the students, to care about the world more, instead of just themselves, and this also benefitted the special needs students in similar ways too.
