The D.A. Decided Not to Pursue as Cheng Who’d Killed a Police Officer Was Found Not Guilty

This case was from FIFTEEN years ago, imagine what the family of the deceased got DRAGGED through over all these years! From the Front Page Sections, translated…

The Death Row Inmate, Accused of Murdering an Officer Fifteen Years Ago, After the High Subsidiary Courts of Taichung Found Him Not Guilty in an Appeal, the Families of the Officer Who’d Died in the Line of Duty Begged the D.A. to Pursue the Charges, but for the D.A. of the High Subsidiary Court’s who’d asked for the retrials believed, that there was anything unconstitutional about the retrial, and decided not to go for an appeal yesterday; Cheng was found not guilty.

The district attorney manager, Wu stated, that based off of the laws of criminal courts, the victims couldn’t ask for an appeal, even IF the ruling wasn’t in favor of the victims, they can’t appeal; she’d believed, that in the future, there would be an amendment on this, copying the German systems, to allow the victims to have a chance of participating in the lawsuits, to help protect their rights.

Fifteen years ago, in a karaoke in Taichung, there was a gunfire between the police and the robbers, the officer on duty, Su died in the line of duty, and the primary suspect, Lo also got shot and died, Yang, the other suspect who was there was sentenced to death; but as the Taichung High Subsidiary D.A.’s office reexamined the evidence, found that there wasn’t a further investigation of D.N.A., to confirm that Lo was the one who’d murdered the police officer, last March, they’d asked for a retrial, on behalf of the defendant, was the judge granted it.

On October 26, the courts found Cheng not guilty on his retrial, and Su’s family was upset, and had their attorney go to the district attorney, to ask for an appeal, believed that there are still, suspicions of the case, including what position did the primary suspect Lo take as he fired at the police? Whether it’d matched up to the angle of the bullet entry into Su’s body? Back then, was it really Lo who’d fired the shots first, and hit Su, then, gotten killed by the other officers? They’d hoped the D.A. and the courts to examine the forensics to make sure.

As Cheng was found not gu8ilty, other than Su’s families being upset, the president of the Retired Police Officers Commissions, Gan gathered over two hundred people, and protested in front of the courthouse on the 17th.

And so, this, is a BLOW to the family of the officer who’d died in the line of duty, because their loved one was shot, and now, after the evidence was reexamined, with the technologies available now, but didn’t have back then, this man who was only an accomplice to the robbery from back then was let off easy, no wonder the family of the deceased officer was unhappy, they want justice!
