After He Had an Affair

The trials of their shared lives, affecting all three individuals, including the woman her husband was having an affair with, translated…

Looking over at Yang’s final portrait, a mixture of emotions came up inside, being a nearly perfect man his life, in his midlife years, he’d fallen in love, which led to his life’s end.

After Yang married, he’d moved in with his in-laws, he had a small circle, and other than working, he’d hung around his childhood playmates, and those friends were all his wife, Chiu-Ju’s friends from childhood too, there’s not any troubles there. Every day, Yang who travel between Taipei and Keelung to deliver the shipments, the fare he received, were given to Chiu-Ju to collect, he’d never asked on it; after work, wherever he’d gone, with a call, Chiu-Ju could get him home in an instant.圖/倩imagine the betrayals of his wife…illustration from the papers online…

Before Chiu-Ju married, she was very swiftly, she’d made a lot of money, knitting the sweaters for her clients. After she wed, she’d focused on taking care of her home, her kids, and her husband, and helped everybody she knew sort through the assortments of troubles in their lives. Her measure of controlling her husband was keeping a close eye on the household finances and knowing where her husband is at all hours of the day, believing, that she’s, safe for life. As she’d given me the advices on how she’d “trained” her husband to me as a wedding gift, I’d let her words go in one ear, and out the other, I hoped, to respect my husband’s use of money, and respect his personal space. I’d recalled how many times I saw Chiu-Ju standing at the stairway, handing Yang his allowances for the day, and, seeing how awkward I’d felt, Yang always smiled bitterly, “See, how good my wife is!”

After an accident, Yang felt that his agility wasn’t as good as it used to be, with the introduction of a friend, he’d started working as a chauffeur for a Japanese business owner here. As the business owner’s driver, he’d needed to dress fashionably too; the boss enjoyed having drinks, and after awhile, Yang started dancing with his own younger sister-in-law using the new moves he’d learned, and, don’t know when, the man who’d come home as Chiu-Ju would call became, a man who only returned, late at night.

Suddenly, Chiu-Ju trimmed her long-hair she’d kept for years off, and traded that in for a swift, short do; the clothes she’d worn from the marketplaces, traded in for the name-brands, and her usual flip-flops, traded for an assortments of high heels and boots too………and, those who knew them knew right off the bat, that something wasn’t quite right between her husband and her.

Chiu-Ju started showing up at Yang’s workplace, waiting for him to get off work, it’d angered Yang very much, and he’d excused himself that he needed to work longer, and returned home even later. Chiu-Ju was angered, hired the private investigators, and, the other woman was given her lesson in everybody’s eyes, and Chiu-Ju had, “claimed” her status, believed, that, she’d, severed the ties her husband had with the other woman, but, the other woman’s tears made Yang’s heart ache, it’d gotten him, more entangled in. Yang did start coming home at the designated hours, but, he’d started giving Chiu-Ju the silent treatment ever since.

And the days passed like this for a while, one day, Chiu-Ju pulled Yang to the park to exercise with her, suddenly, Yang wasn’t feeling well. Chiu-Ju was flustered, wanted to take him to the hospital, but he’d insisted on making a phone call, and struggled and found a public phone, dialed with the remaining strength he had left in him, “Fang-Yi, I’m almost gone………”, with the phone dangling in mid-air, the woman on the other end of the line called out, and Yang had passed out on the ground.

Yang died, and Chiu-Ju didn’t spare a single tear for him, she was stripped of the chance to confront her own husband about his affair. That call became Yang’s declaration, “Even to the end of my life, you’re not the one I loved or cared about.”

As the rest of us started lighting up the incense, to pay our final respects, Chiu-Ju still didn’t shed a tear, but she’s, the one in the most pain.

This would be, a SLAP across the woman’s face, because even AS her husband died, he’d only had that woman with whom he’d been having an affair with in mind, and imagine the blows to the wife in this, it’s no wonder, she didn’t cry on his funeral!!!
