One Firefighter Died in the Line of Duty on a Call to Put out a Fire

A tragedy that could’ve been avoided, had the team of rescuers worked in pairs, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

There was a fire in a technology company in Hsinchu, the twenty-one-year-old, one year firefighter, Lin went into the building, to search for the point where the fire started, he was suspected of having inhaled in the thick smokes, and passed out, and died in the process; his girlfriend who was about to marry him also worked in the emergency hospital he was taken to, as she’d heard the news, she’d run straight into the E.R.

The fire department of Hsinchu said, that the fire was started in the plant of Shangyang yesterday, inside the ceiling boards, the smokes came out everywhere.  The Fire Department sent out the First Squad, along with three other local fire stations to help put out the fires, the outside didn’t show any smoke, but the smoke was filling up the inside of the factory plant.  The firefighters were able to keep the fires under control by 1:30 in the afternoon yesterday, they’d put it out by 4:30, there were thirteen workers who’d suffered smoke inhalation who were taken to the hospital, one is still being observed in the hospital, the rest released.

In the process of putting out the fire, the firefighter, Lin and his fellow firefighter and the workers of the machine rooms worked together, went up to the third floor, where the smoke was the thickest, to search for the ignition point of the fire, Lin’s coworker ran out of oxygen, and went outside to get a new bottle, while Lin and the factory worker kept searching, later, they were separated, the worker made his way out, leaving Lin alone on the third floor.

The fire department’s another group of four at around two in the afternoon, pulled the hoses up to the third floor, found Lin on the floor, with his equipment intact, no signs of life, they’d rushed him to the hospital, while resuscitating him, and after an hour’s worth of emergent resuscitation measures, the doctor’s declared him dead.  Lin’s family came up north last night, and the D.A. will examine into the cause of death today.

The fire department told, that normally the firefighters worked in pairs, entering and exiting the fires together.  But because, there were people still in the factory plants, they’d both wanted to find the origin of the fire sooner, and so, as the coworker ran out of oxygen, he’d left first; on this, the fire department is doing the investigations.

Lin graduated last October from the police academy, and was sent to work in his station.  He has a level two certification for paramedics, and certificate of fire rescues, etc., etc., he also certified for other sorts of rescues, he was first place in the training skills test, was outstanding.

And so, this man died, because of how his partner went out to get his oxygen refilled, and, this should’ve never happened, because, they were assigned to a team of two, in case someone needs something, and yet, this man died, because of the carelessness of his coworker.
