Because the man had died, abuse by his superiors in the armed services, and so, the country will pay up! From the Front Page Sections, translated…
The man, Hong with a master’s degree enlisted nine years ago, and was sent to the marines to serve, he was often given a difficult time by the superiors, and called an “idiot” a lot, he had once been “corrected” twelve times in only fourteen short hors by his superiors, and he’d become depressed, as he got out of the services, he’d leapt off of the building of the Guguan Specialty Training Unit’s Teaching building and killed himself. His family sued the country for his death, the High Courts yesterday, on the second appeal, found the marines responsible, and mandated that it pay the family over $2.86 million N.T.s, and this decision can still be appealed.
The court’s investigations pointed out, that before Hong enlisted, he wasn’t mentally troubled on record, he’d started serving his armed services term in March of 2008, and assigned to the specialty unit of the marines command center, in June, he’d passed the training of a financial officer, but the superiors didn’t follow the order of promotions, and made him a corporal, from the lowest ranking in the army, and was verbally abusive toward him repeatedly; on August 12th the same year, the National Guards’ Hospital in Taoyuan diagnosed Hong with anxiety compounded with depressive disorder, and yet, his superiors continued torturing him.
Hou, the second in command of the platoon had forced Hong and three of his comrades to carry a 12.8 kilogram equipment for a check, and if one of them failed to have everything there, then, ALL four of them were made to run the laps, getting the equipment from their dormitories, then run back to the classrooms, and if one of them was too slow, then, they were to, start all over counting from the first lap all over again.
After four, five runs, Hong’s body could no longer manage, so he’d, fallen onto the ground, and that was when How sent the medics, to take him into the infirmary.
The verdict stated, that on September 7th of the same year, Hong started showing signs of depression, and, the risk of suicide for him, was to twelve to twenty times higher than normal people, Hong told his platoon leader, the head of his class, that he wasn’t feeling well, but, they’d, ignored him, and, they’d, “corrected” Hong a total of twelve time in the period of about fourteen hours, from the hours of 6:30 in the evening to 8:30 in the morn next day, Hong couldn’t take the emotional and physical abuse anymore, and he couldn’t change his external environment, the next morning, he’d, leapt off the building and killed himself.
And, Hou, the assistant platoon leader was sentenced to one year in prison for using his status to abuse the subordinates.
Yeah so, this, is still abuse in the armed services, and, these “leaders” of the armed forces don’t lead well, or maybe, it’s because of how hard they’d been drilled while serving their terms, now that they’re higher up on the totem pole, they felt the need to grill those who were freshly enlisted, and, if this sort of abuse in the armed services continues, then, the country’s fighting powers would totally, become, too reduced, and are we going to, rely on those LOSERS who abuse their subordinates, to guide us in times of war??? I think not!
